DRAFT MASTER PLAN FOR THE DPTS

REGIONAL TRAIL CORRIDOR
EXISTING CONDITIONS

The Regional Trail Corridor is a strip of land,
varying in width at either 75 fro or 100 fr., located
approximately 120 fro west of (and parallel to) First
St. The property is the former Southern Pacific Rail-
road (SPRR) right of way, currently owned by the
County of Alameda. As County property, it is also
known as the Alameda County Trail Corridor. The
City of Pleasanton's interest in the Corridor is based
on the possibiliry that Pleasanton may eventually
own or have control over some or all of this land.

The downtown stretch of the Regional Trail
Corridor is gen~rally flat, open, and relatively
unused. The two blocks from Bernal Ave. north to
West Angela St. are curtently used for parking. The
next block north ro Neal St., adjacent to Delucchi
Park, is the site of the Railroad History Museum, a
set of original railroad tracks on ties, with one diesel-
era boxcar, and a caboose. An open drainage ditch
with vertical sides is also located here.

Adjacent to Wayside Park, north of Neal St., the
right of way is largely vacant except for a small retail
building, the Pleasanton Ice House. The open drain
swale that starts in Wayside Park runs through the
Corridor for just over half the length of the park.
The park's bandstand and Lion's Club building are
located partly in the Corridor (approximately 8 fro
and 4 fro into the right of way, respectively).

From Wayside Park north to the Arroyo del
Valle, the Corridor is vacant land. Where the Cor-
ridor crosses the Arroyo, it is the site of an aban-
doned railroad trestle bridge, which is badly burned,
and currently unsafe for public use.

Abo",:
Th, Corridor
(from Nral St..
looking south).
Middk:
Thr Corridor
(from
w"" Angr'" St.,
looking south).
&Iow:
Existing railroad
trntlr.

REGIONAL TRAIL CORRIDOR DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS
3 I

1>;1 II I
