<br />DRAFT MASTER PLAN FOR THE DPTS <br /> <br />. MULTI.PURPOSE ROOM - 2,500 SQ. FT. <br /> <br />This high-ceiling, flat-floor room would be suitable for lectures and a wide variety <br />of "black box theater" uses. The room could accommodate up to 250 seats and a <br />number of moveable stage configurations. An adjoining, acoustieally separated "cry- <br />ing room" would allow parents with young children to enjoy events without disturb- <br />ing other patrons. Backstage atea and storage, theater lighting, and projection <br />equipment make this a space which would support a wide range of uses, from dance <br />classes to theater performances. This multi-purpose room would be adjacent to Way- <br />side Patk to support outdoor performances. <br /> <br />. MULTI.PURPOSE SPACES - 2,750 SQ. FT. <br /> <br />Two rooms plus storage are proposed to serve a variety of activities. One room <br />would hold up to 45 people and have a wooden floor suitable for dance. Another <br />would accommodate up to 30 people and have a vinyl floor and sinks suitable for art <br />activities. Movable partitions and tables, chairs, and risers would allow for a variety of <br />alternative configurations and uses. <br /> <br />. OFFICES AND WORK AREAS - 600 SQ. FT. <br /> <br />Two shared offices and a work room available for community organizations, group <br />meetings, and volunreer projects. <br /> <br />. OTHER SUPPORT SPACES - 5,050 SQ. FT. <br /> <br />The remaining building area would be composed of bathrooms, mechanical <br />rooms, circulation spaces, maintenance areas, and building storage rooms. <br /> <br />. SQUARE FOOTAGES (SQ. FT. AMOUNTS) <br /> <br />Note that the areas shown above are for an illustrative program totalling 13, 750 <br />gross sq. ft. of building area. A final building program could be smaller or larger as <br />specific functions and spatial relationships are further defined. <br /> <br />. GUIDELINES FOR DESIGN <br /> <br />The Fire Station No. 1 should have a character appropriate to downtown Pleasan- <br />ton. Its character should respect the historic fire house and complement the street and <br />the park. The exterior would include brick and other materials that are compatible <br />with the old fire house and downtown. The building should be visually attractive and <br />welcoming. A large lobby should visually connect the interior of the building to the <br />park and allow views to the park from the street.
