THE CITY OF

pL£ASANTON

City Council

Staff Report

June 18, 2002
Police Department

SUBJECT

APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF STATE OF
CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT TECHNOLOGY GRANT

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

SUMMARY

The City Council adopts a resolution approving expenditures from the
State of California Law Enforcement Technology Grant.

State Assembly Bill 1740 established the State of California Law
Enforcement Technology grant. These funds, allocated from the State
budget are intended to provide police agencies with the ability to enhance
their use of technology in providing punic safety services. The City of
Pleasanton has received $50,186 from the State of California for this
purpose.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council:
BACKGROUND

State Assembly Bill 1740 established a statewide fund for allocation to local police agencies to
enhance the use of technology in providing law enforcement services. Each municipal police
agency in California received a minimum of $30,000. Based upon our population, the pro-
rated allocation to Pleasanton is $50,186. While Pleasanton has remained contemporary in
applying technology to police operations, this funding has provided us an opportunity to
provide technological support to some of our specialized services, as well as capitalize on new
advances in technology in order to provide superior police services.

SR:02:133 Page 1
