2.2 Traffic and Circulation

Project-Related Traffic Safety Impacts

Impact= Unsafe traffic conditions at Sunol Boulevard/Project Street

The City finds that approval of the project without adequate
roadway improvements on Sunol Boulevard at the intersection with
the project street and at the Sunol Boulevard/Arlington Drive
intersection would result in unsafe traffic conditions. This is a
significant impact (Draft EIR, page 4-8).

Proposed Mitigation Measures of the EIR

The EIR identified the following mitigation measures which would
substantially avoid this project-related traffic impact.

4-1 Improvements to Sunol Boulevard at Project Street: Westbound
to southbound left turn lane; relocate project street
intersection to the west; recommended lane widths; and widen
paved area along project frontage. Said mitigation measure
was considered and adopted with any pertinent changes"as
Condition 4-1, Exhibit "B" of the City Council staff report
dated June 16, 1992. In addition, the project has been
modified to include applicable mitigation measures as detailed
in the City Council staff report dated June 16, 1992.

4-2 Improvements to Sunol Boulevard at Project Street: sign and
provide median to prohibit northbound to westbound left'turn
streets from project street (Draft EIR, page 4-1S). Said
mitigation measure was considered and adopted with any
pertinent changes as Condition 4-2, Exhibit "B" of the City
Council staff report dated June 16, 1992.

4-3 Improvements to Sunol Boulevard at Project Street: provide
375 feet of eastbound to southbound right-turn deceleration
lane on Sunol Boulevard (Draft EIR, page 4-18). Said
mitigation measure was considered and adopted with any
pertinent changes as Condition 4-3, Exhibit "B" of the City
Council staff report dated June 16, 1992.

4-4 Improvements at Sunol Boulevard andArlington Drive: prohibit
northbound to southbound U-turns at the Sunol
Boulevard/Arlington Drive intersection (Draft EIR, page 4-18).
Said mitigation measure was considered. It was determined
that the installation of a traffic light was more appropriate
in terms of traffic movement and public safety. A mitigation
measure was adopted as Condition 4-4, Exhibit "B" of the City
Council staff report dated June 1G, 1992.
