Ordinance No. 1584 <br />Page Fourteen <br /> <br /> G. Deception of Passengers. No Driver shall deceive, or <br /> attempt to deceive, any passenger who may ride in the <br /> Taxicab as to the destination, or the rate of fare to be <br /> charged, or cause the passenger to be conveyed to a place <br /> other than directed by the passenger. <br /> <br /> 6.40.240 Maintenance Requirements. <br /> <br /> A. Inspection of Taxicabs. To insure continued maintenance <br /> of safe operating conditions, Taxicabs and their <br /> e~quipment operating pursuant to this section shall be <br /> inspected semiannually at a garage or garages approvedby <br /> the Chief of Police. The garage or garages shall, after <br /> such semiannual inspection, issue a "certificate of <br /> safety" certifying that the Taxicab and its equipment <br /> comply with the safety requirements of this section. The <br /> inspecting garage or garages shall issue an official smog <br /> certificate for each vehicle inspected to accompany the <br /> "certificate of safety". The Owner shall semiannually <br /> take the Taxicabs to the State Bureau of Weights and <br /> Measures for recertification of the Taximeters. The cost <br /> of the inspections shall be paid by the Owner. <br /> <br /> B. Authority of Police Department to Inspect Taxicabs. The <br /> Police Chief shall have the right to enter into or upon <br /> any Taxicab for the purpose of ascertaining whether or <br /> not any provisions set forth in this section are being <br /> violated. The last inspection form and a blank <br /> inspection form, current commercial vehicle registration, <br /> a copy of the current Bureau of Weights and Measures <br /> certificate certifying the Taximeter, and a copy of the <br /> current insurance policy, in case the Taxicab is involved <br /> in a collision, shall be carried in the Taxicab at all <br /> times so that an inspection can be done completely. <br /> <br /> c. Unsafe or Unsuitable Taxicab. Any Taxicab which is found <br /> after such inspection to be unsafe or in any way <br /> unsuitable for Taxicab service shall immediately be <br /> ordered out of service, and before again being placed in <br /> service the Owner shall obtain a "certificate of safety" <br /> for the Taxicab. <br /> <br /> D. Things Deemed to Make a Taxicab Unsafe or Unsuitable. <br /> For the purposes of this section, the existence of the <br /> following named things, but not to the exclusion of other <br /> things, shall be deemed to make a Taxicab unsafe or <br /> unsuitable for Taxicab service: <br /> <br /> <br />
