He requested elimination of the condition to lock up shotgun ammunition. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued relating to the sale of handguns, the need to redesign the store in order to comply <br />with the condition to lock up ammunition, deleting the second sentence of Condition No. 16, the type of <br />containers in which firearms are sold, firearms being brought into the store to be shipped to another <br />state, the required background check for employees who sell firearms, and location of the firearms <br />department within the store. <br /> <br />Herbert Marshall, 3202 Clifford Circle, spoke in favor of the conditional use permit being approved for <br />firearm sales at Outdoor World. He further requested that Condition H be modified to allow for citizens <br />who do not have driver's licenses to show an alternative form of identification. <br /> <br />John Westbrook, 10890 Dublin Canyon Road, commended Outdoor World for their professional <br />business practices and their top quality line of firearms. He spoke in favor of the conditional use permit <br />being approved for firearm sales at Outdoor World. <br /> <br />Kimberley Rowland, 3650 Locke Court, noted that she was the Chairperson for Measure G, and that she <br />met with Mr. Thomas and the two other firearm dealers in Pleasanton to work toward compliance with <br />the Measure G ordinance. She stated she was not in opposition to the conditional use permit being <br />approved. She expressed her support with staffs recommendation for trigger locks on handguns and <br />commented that it may set an example for firearm owners to trigger lock guns at home and to reduce <br />accessibility and theft of guns to youths. She further noted that the police report was not specific in <br />relation to the ammunition displayed and requested police input on this issue. She requested that <br />Condition No. 9 relating to the video camera be put in place before the conditional use permit is issued. <br />In conclusion, she noted that Outdoor World is working toward being in compliance with Measure G. <br /> <br />Bill Spence, 2284 Goldcrest Circle, provided the Commission with a letter dated May 26, 1999 and <br />spoke in favor of the conditional use permit being approved for firearm sales at Outdoor World. He <br />commented on the safety conscientiousness of employees of Outdoor World, that Outdoor World is an <br />asset to Pleasanton, falling to grant the permit would impact the employees of Outdoor World and would <br />have a negative effect on the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />David Pastor, 3613 Hawaii Court, noted that people purchasing firearms are doing it legally and he <br />expressed support with application being approved. <br /> <br />Mr. Thomas expressed appreciation to the people who supported Outdoor World's application. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED <br /> <br />Commissioner Cooper noted his support with approving the application and stated that Outdoor World is <br />an asset to the community and a responsible operation. He stated that people who are frequenting the <br />store can avoid the firearm department, if they so choose. He commented that staffs recommendation <br />for conditions are reasonable and that the applicant has concurred with conditions.
