Communication and Coordination - facilitate timely information,
communication and coordination of youth and family-related programs and
services.

PH~,gE H , Development of Goals and Objecti~,es

The Youth-Master Plan Steering Committee reorganized itself into five (5) subcommittees
during Phase II, each related to one (1) of the identified r~curring themes. The new
subcommittees undertook additional research to develop goals, objectives, rationales and
implemen~tion suggestions for particular themes. This work constitutes the bulk of the Youth
Master Plan of Pleasanton, which is the subject of this report. Considerable attention was also
placed on the development of a coordination and implementation plan for the Youth Master
Plan.

The Steering Committee, at its final workshop held on November 27, 2000, voted to add an
additional theme to the Plan:

Community of Character - reflects a district-wide project of the Pleasanton
Unified School District that seeks to define and promote positive attributes of
civility and character within the community.

STAFF ANALYSIS

Scot~ and Approach

The youth Master Plan of Pleasanton is both specific and broadly drawn. It reflects realities and
aspirations, and seeks to take advantage of existing programs and community agencies while
citing additional desires and programs that will likely need to be developed. Comprehensive,
community, wide involvement will be necessary for its implementation, and the Plan does not
rely exclusively on the City or the School District to effect every recommended action.

Most of the Plan's goals and objectives for each theme tend to reflect a practical and/or broad
nature, and could be placed in one of the following categories:

· Existing programs that may simply need enhancement, coordination and/or
greater public awareness.

· Programs or actions that have already been initiated due to the Youth Master
Plan process.

· Opportunities for programs/actions where resources already exist but require
organization and implementation.

SR 01:124
Page 4
