PROCESS AND RESULTS <br /> <br />Pha~e I- Research <br /> <br />Four (4) subcommittees were initially established by the Steering Committee. The purpose was <br />to g~ther demographic data and public input related to ongoing services for youth; public <br />attitudes; perceived needs; and existing and desired resources. The data and input would be <br />used to identify recurring themes regarding the needs of youth and families. <br /> <br />· Community Input Subcommittee - utilized public surveys, focus groups, community <br /> forums and interviews with citizens of all ages. <br /> <br />Demographics Subcommittee - gathered all pertinent and available data from the U.S. <br />Census, Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD), Alameda County, State of California <br />and community studies. <br /> <br /> Resource Inventory Subcommittee - undertook the mapping and determination of formal <br /> and informal youth and family-related community resources, i.e. parks and school <br />· facilities, commercial establishments, health resources, entertainment venues, etc. <br /> <br />· Youth Input Subcommittee - conducted surveys, interviews and focus groups with <br /> students from Pleasanton's middle and high schools. <br /> <br />The Youth Master Plan Phase I subcommittees were assisted in the administration and execution <br />of the various surveys, focus groups, community forums and community mapping day by <br />numerous volunteers. These included community leaders, professionals, citizens and students <br />who acted as facilitators, scribes and information gatherers. <br /> <br />An analysis ofthefinal subcommittee reports revealed five (5) recurring themes that form the <br />basis of the Youth Master Plan of Pleasanton: <br /> <br />· Child Care and Supervised Youth Activities - ensure readily available, high <br /> quality childcare and supervised youth activities. <br /> <br />· Healthy Youth and Families - promote the physical and emotional safety, <br /> creativity, and well-being of the community's young people and their families. <br /> <br />· Intergenerational Relationships - foster strong intergenerational relationships <br /> within families and the community. <br /> <br />· Jobs and Leadership - provide opportunities for job training, work experience, <br /> and community leadership for youth aged 13-22 years. <br /> <br />SR 01:124 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
