st CO m A os: <br /> <br />Staff concurs with the recommendations of the various City commissions <br />and Economic Vitality Committee. <br /> <br />SUMMAilY <br /> <br />This report is a review of the Youth Master Plan jointly supported and <br />funded by the School Board and City. Council. The Plan is the culmination <br />ora two and one-half(2 1/2) year process to identify, enhance, and <br />coordinate needed services for the youth and families ofPleasanton. A <br />thirty (30) member Steering Committee, comprised of representatives from <br />the City Council, School District Board of Trustees, City commissions, <br />related service organizations, middle and high school student bodies, faith <br />community, police, business sector, and the community at large, worked to <br />gather community input and develop goals and objectives for the Plan. Six <br />(6) recurring themes were developed during the process: Child Care and <br />Supervised Youth Activities; Healthy Youth and Families; Intergenerational <br />Relationships; Jobs and Leadership; Communication and Coordination; and <br />Community of Character. The Youth Master Plan of Pleasanton has been <br />approved by City commissions, the Economic Vitality Committee, the City/ <br />School Liaison Committee and the Pleasanton Unified School District Board <br />of Trustees. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Pleasanton City Council and Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees, at a <br />joint meeting on June 4, 1998, approved a staffrecommendation calling for the establishment of <br />a Youth MaSter Plan for Pleasanton. Both the City Council and Board of Trustees envisioned a <br />plan lliat would "develop a community vision for youth and an organized approach to <br />implementing services." <br /> <br />Repr~entatives from government, business, education, human services agencies and local <br />schools were appointed to the Youth Master Plan' of Pleasanton Steering Committee by their <br />respective agencies in October, 1998. Youth of the community were represented by students <br />from the City's three (3) high schools, two (2) middle schools and Las Positas College; <br />Additional oommunity-at-large representatives were interviewed and selected by the Steering <br />Committee in November 1998. The Steering Committee developed a Vision Statement for the <br />Plan and Accompanying Guiding Principles, which are delineated in the Plan's introduction. <br /> <br />SR 01:124 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
