RESIDENTIAL
The growth of new industries in the Pleasanton area,
and the increasing popularity of Eastern Alameda County
as a place to live, have created a strong demand for resi-
dential housing in Pleasanton. Residents of the City are
within reasonable commuting distance of much of the San
Frandsco Bay area, and they are only minutes away from
all employment centers of the Amador-Livermore Valley.
A housing survey of April 1, 1967 reported that Pleas-
anion had a total of 3,014 residential units. In the past four
years some 1,780 new residential units have been bulk,
which is an increase of substantially more
since 1963.
The number and dollar value of building permits in-
creased very sharply in the years from 1964 through 1966.
The number of new permits declined somewhat in 1967,
mainly because no new subdivisions were started in that
year. However, the total value of permits inc~ very
substantially in 1967 and 1968 as the result of new indus-
trial construction. Residential construction alao increased
in the first half of 1968.

1960 130 $ 1,258,508
1961 140 1,255,922
1962 111 1,228,550
1963 115 1,497,629
1964 366 7,013,056
1965 588 8,033,039
1966 931 14,451,565
1967 564 20,427,997
1968 716 12,142,453*

'Values shown are generally higher than tho~e l~ab!ishe~, in the
Series A bond prospectus be~use former value hmng included
only residential and commercial properties, whereas all t~rmits are
reflected in pr~amt table.
**First 6 months only.

In the last few yearl rnuth new /tslclentlal building has 4Kcurred in
Iqeasanton. piCtUred here afl seine typic(il middle-da# homes In
residential nelghhorhoods, m~d a neighborhoed park cimpleted In
1966.

15

Annexations
Nearby unincorporated areas continue to be subdivided
and deyeloped, and those in the logical l~th of Plessanton's
expansion have been scheduled for annexation in due

The City charges an annexation fee of ll200 per acre
on annexed property as it is developed.
Plearanton has annexed between one and two square
miles annually for the past five years, and the incorporated
area has grown from 1.22 sqmure miles in 1962 to 9.53
square miles in 1967.
