Table 1. Continued

The City of Pleasanton shall avoid grading and construction
activities along the stream banks of the Arroyo del Valle between
October 15 and May 1 to reduce potential mortality to hibernating
turtles.

If a turtle becomes trapped during construction activities
within the waterway, the turtle will be removed ~om the work area
and placed downstream from the project site.
BIO-5 Conduct a preconstmction survey for nesting raptors. Before
construction activities begin, a qualified biologist will conduct a
preconstruction survey during the spring or early summer (April
through early July) to determine whether white-tailed kites or other
raptors are present on or adjacent to the project site to avoid
construction-related impacts. If this surveys detects nesting raptors on
the project site, the nest tree will be fenced and a no-disturbance buffer
will be established until nesting activity is completed. The distance
and placement of the buffer area will be determined in consultation
with DFG.
BIO-6
Breeding Season. Preconstmction surveys consist
of visually checking all potential habitat in the Bernal Avenue Bridge
project area and within 250 feet of its boundaries. If active burrowing
owl nests are found, biologists will establish a 250-foot buffer zone
around the active burrow. No construction activities will be permitted
within the specified buffer zone until after the breeding season,
between February 1 and August 31, or until it is determined that young
have fledged.

Wintering Season. Because adult burrowing owls can occupy
burrows year-round, DFG mitigation guidelines for burrowing owls
will be implemented before initiating construction activities in
potential burrowing owl habitat. Preconstruction surveys during the
wintering season consist of visually checking all potential habitat in
areas where ground-disturbing activities would occur.

Qualified wildlife biologists will conduct preconstruction surveys for
burrowing owls within 1-2 weeks of construction activities. The
guidelines require that one-way doors be installed at least 48 hours

DPW

DPW

Prior to construction and
during April through July

Prior to construction

DFG/Biological Monitor

DFG/Biological Monitor
