due to the lack of agreement between the United States <br /> Postal Service and the City of Pleasanton, relative to <br /> placement of curbside mailboxes; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, certain residents indicated the inconvenience of <br /> having to drive to the local post office in order to <br /> receive their mail, and indicated their willingness to <br /> institute litigation against the City of Pleasanton in <br /> order to obtain said mail; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council believes that it is untenable for <br /> citizens to have to be inconvenienced and/or litigate <br /> this issue with the City, and thus, as a convenience <br /> to it's residents and constituents is desirous of <br /> modifying its provision. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES <br />RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. City Attorney is directed to undertake necessary <br /> <br /> action to prepare an amendment, and necessary rules <br /> and regulations relating to the placement of mail- <br /> boxes at curbside within the city limits of the City <br /> of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Section 2. City Council declares its intention to continue to <br /> seek, through the legislative process, amendments to <br /> regulations affecting United States Postal Service, <br /> in order to reinstate door-to-door delivery service <br /> within all segments of the community. <br /> <br />Section 3. City Council wishes to advise members of Congress and <br /> members of the general public that it appreciates <br /> assistance and support which has been received from <br /> members of Congress in relation to this conflict with <br /> the United States Postal Service and urges its con- <br /> tinued support of collective legislation, and to <br /> recognize that the City Council has undertaken the <br /> <br />-2- <br /> <br /> <br />
