Written Narrative
r r r.
k ~~
~~
lrrp '~
1
,, ,, ~ , _.
Request for Conditional Use Permit . ~' ~~ ~` ''
The Hudson Family's Chicken Coop ,. ;_
August 2005 ~.
_. ~ E Y t ;; ~'. I~ , .. , Jw
We would like a conditional use permit to allow us to house our four pet
hens on our residential property in a chicken coop we built in November
2004.
Construction:
The coop is framed in 2 x 4s and sided with redwood plank on two sides and
chicken wire on the remaining two sides to allow for airflow. The flooring is
of a heavy wire mesh, allowing droppings to be easily raked from
underneath. The roof is corrugated plastic. The entire chicken coop measures
6 feet 7 inches in length on each side. It is 5 feet and 8 inches in width. It is
4 feet and 6 inches tall on the front side with a 6-inch increase in height at
the backside to prevent rainwater pooling on the roof. The coop is built
above a hill; so the front of the coop is raised on 28-inch high 4 x 4 redwood
legs, anchored to cement pylons, which rest on the ground. The backside of
the coop rests directly on cement pylons, allowing for the incline in the hill
beneath the coop. There is a small wood-framed door on the front of the
coop, faced with chicken wire. At the top of the front side of the coop are
five small doors, which open into nesting boxes, allowing access to eggs. In
the winter, the two chicken-wired sides of the coop aze covered with fitted,
thick, cleaz plastic to allow for insulation. No special equipment was used to
build this coop.
Location:
The coop is situated at the backside of our house, directly behind our family
room chimney. The coop is situated approximately 13 yazds from the fence
line of our north-side neighbor, 27 yazds from our northwest neighbor's
house, over 28 yazds from our southwest neighbor's house, and over 30
yards from our south-side neighbor's house.
