40:5 - REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER Review of Bids; Award of Contract; One-Ton Flat Bed Dump Truck Mr. Edgar reviewed his report, dated December 5. 1969, regarding the results of the formal bids that were recei~ed for a one-ton flat bed dump truck, and in- dicated that John Edgren and Sons had submitted the lowest bid for $3,829.24. Discussion ensued regarding the use the City would have for a vehicle of this type and Mr. Campbell explained its versatility. Mayor Gerton suggested that Mr. Edgar negotiate with Edgren's to convert this vehicle so that liquid petroleum. instead of gasoline, can be used. Mayor Gerton stated that this shall be the first step the City takes in the conversion of all City vehicles to a low emmission type fuel in order to combat the smog problem. Discussion ensued regarding storage facilities for the liquid petroleum. It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Reid that Resolution No. 69-290, accepting the bid in the amount of $3.829.24 from John Edgren and Sons for a one-ton flat bed dump truck; and directing the Assistant City Manager to with John Edgren and Sons to convert this vehicle so that liquid petroleum can be used; and that the Director of Public Works investigate and report to the Council on December 15, 1969, information regarding the cost for any low emmission fuel systems, storage of fueld and any information pertinent to smog control on vehicles, be adopted. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis. Rega, Reid and Mayor Gerton NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos o::r ..c '-:J U ~ It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Reid that the City Manager be directed that in preparing the 1970-71 City Budget. that the cost of converting all present City vehicles to a low emmission type fuel, be con- sidered, and that all new vehicles to be purchased be equipped with the above mentioned system. Reid and Mayor Gerton NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos Report Re: Smog Control A study session on the report of the City Manager regarding Smog Control, dated December 8. 1969, was scheduled for January 8, 1970. Matters for the Information of the Council Mr. Edgar stated that articles entitled, "Suburbia, a Wasteland of Disadvan- taged Youth and Negligent Schools", and "When the Dollars dry up in Suburbia", had been forwarded to the Councilmen. ~J:PORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY Report and LeRal Opinion Re: S~OR Control Mayor Gerton requested that this report be discussed at the study session scheduled for January 8, 1970, in conjunction with the City Manager's report on Smog Control. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL ~MBERS Councilman Beratlis initiated discussion relating to the location of drive-in type facilities in the Central Commercial District in the downtown area. He stated he felt this matter should be referred to the Planning Commission for consideration. It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Rega that the, matter of locating drive-in type facilities in the Central Commercial District of the downtown area be referred to the Planning Commission for consideration.
