<br />40:5 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER <br />Review of Bids; Award of Contract; One-Ton Flat Bed Dump Truck <br />Mr. Edgar reviewed his report, dated December 5. 1969, regarding the results <br />of the formal bids that were recei~ed for a one-ton flat bed dump truck, and in- <br />dicated that John Edgren and Sons had submitted the lowest bid for $3,829.24. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the use the City would have for a vehicle of this <br />type and Mr. Campbell explained its versatility. <br />Mayor Gerton suggested that Mr. Edgar negotiate with Edgren's to convert this <br />vehicle so that liquid petroleum. instead of gasoline, can be used. <br />Mayor Gerton stated that this shall be the first step the City takes in the <br />conversion of all City vehicles to a low emmission type fuel in order to combat <br />the smog problem. <br />Discussion ensued regarding storage facilities for the liquid petroleum. <br />It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Reid that Resolution <br />No. 69-290, accepting the bid in the amount of $3.829.24 from John Edgren and Sons <br />for a one-ton flat bed dump truck; and directing the Assistant City Manager to <br />with John Edgren and Sons to convert this vehicle so that liquid petroleum can be <br />used; and that the Director of Public Works investigate and report to the Council <br />on December 15, 1969, information regarding the cost for any low emmission fuel <br />systems, storage of fueld and any information pertinent to smog control on <br />vehicles, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis. Rega, Reid and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> <br />o::r <br /> <br />..c <br />'-:J <br />U <br />~ <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Reid that the <br />City Manager be directed that in preparing the 1970-71 City Budget. that the cost <br />of converting all present City vehicles to a low emmission type fuel, be con- <br />sidered, and that all new vehicles to be purchased be equipped with the above <br />mentioned system. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega. Reid and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> <br />Report Re: Smog Control <br />A study session on the report of the City Manager regarding Smog Control, <br />dated December 8. 1969, was scheduled for January 8, 1970. <br /> <br />Matters for the Information of the Council <br />Mr. Edgar stated that articles entitled, "Suburbia, a Wasteland of Disadvan- <br />taged Youth and Negligent Schools", and "When the Dollars dry up in Suburbia", <br />had been forwarded to the Councilmen. <br /> <br />~J:PORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br />Report and LeRal Opinion Re: S~OR Control <br />Mayor Gerton requested that this report be discussed at the study session <br />scheduled for January 8, 1970, in conjunction with the City Manager's report on <br />Smog Control. <br /> <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br />There were no communications. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL ~MBERS <br />Councilman Beratlis initiated discussion relating to the location of drive-in <br />type facilities in the Central Commercial District in the downtown area. He stated <br />he felt this matter should be referred to the Planning Commission for consideration. <br />It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Rega that the, <br />matter of locating drive-in type facilities in the Central Commercial District of <br />the downtown area be referred to the Planning Commission for consideration. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis. Rega.
