<br />~) l.lI ..... <br />Jna <br /> <br />Mr. Fales stated that the Assembly Transportation Committee's Subcommittee on <br />Air Pollution has scheduled a hearing on the feasibility of altering fuel composi- <br />tion and the desirability of reducing or eliminating lead additives in gasoline, <br />for December 4. 1969, at 9:30 A.M. in Room 1138, New State Building, 107 South <br />Broadway, Los Angeles. <br />Mayor Gerton and Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that they would like to <br />attend this meeting. <br /> <br />Mr. Fales stated that the owner of the property located at the corner of Main <br />and Division Streets has requested that parking on this lot be limited to City <br />vehicles only. Discussion ensued regarding parking facilities for City employees <br />as well as the general public. <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br />There were no reports of the City Attorney. <br /> <br />fOMMUNlCATIONS <br />There were no communications read at this meeting. <br /> <br />~ <br />..... <br />00 <br />~ <br />U <br />U <br /> <br />MATT~RS _lNllJAtED_>>Y COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />Councilman Beratlis asked Mr. Fales to investigate the possibility of using <br />the Southern Pacific Railroad property located between Angela and Neal Streets for <br />off~street parking. Mr. Fales stated that he has already started working on this <br />possibility. <br /> <br />Councilman Spiliotopoulos asked if the priority for the Ray Street-First Street <br />traffic signals could be changed for the St.-Mary-Main Street intersection traffic <br />signals. Mr. Fales stated that this could be done first as the Vineyard Avenue- <br />Ray Street alignment won't be accomplished this year and it would not be economi- <br />cally feasible to install traffic signals prior to the alignment project. <br />It was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman Beratlis <br />that Resolution No. 69-274, interchanging the priority listed in the Capital Im- <br />provement Program of the Ray Street-First Street traffic signals for the St. Mary' <br />Street-Main Street traffic signals, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, R~ga. Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Councilman Spiliotopoulos proposed that the City Council consider asking the <br />Directors at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Liverore to de-emphasize nuclear <br />weapons research and emphasize instead. with no economic changes, environmental <br />research on smog control and air pollution. <br /> <br />Councilman Rega suggested that the Council schedule a tour of the Lawrence <br />Radiation Laboratory facility and learn more of the scientific studies being <br />conducted there before taking any specific action. Councilman Rega was asked <br />to schedule a tour sometime within the next two weeks. <br /> <br />Councilman Beratlis asked Mr. Fales to obtain copies of Governor Reagan's <br />speech on Air Pollution. <br /> <br />Councilman Rega reported that he felt that the Minutes of the Planning Com- <br />mission meeting were too concise. After some discussion, it was decided that this <br />would be discussed again after the next Minutes were released. <br /> <br />Mayor Gerton reported in detail on the meeting of the Assembly Transportation <br />Committee's Subcommittee on Air pollution which he attended in Los Angeles on <br />November 13th. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br />No one addressed the Chair. <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION RE: APPOINTMENT OF CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE TO S.A.C.E.q.A. <br />The scheduled Executive Meeting was cancelled. <br /> <br />4. <br />
