No action was taken, except that the Commission felt that the application could be
scheduled for design review approval.
g. Civic Center Master Plan Workshoa
Preliminary Review of the Civic Center Design Concepts Related to the Civic
Center Master Site Plan Project.
This item was continued to the Planning Commission meeting of June 9, 2004.
7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Bernal Corners
Commissioner Kameny advised that he had spoken with Mr. Iserson with respect to a
letter he received from Theresa Moore, who lives in the KB Home development. He
noted that the letter listed a number of complaints with respect to the "Jack in the Box"
restaurant on the Bernal Property. He requested that staff respond to Ms. Moore in letter
form, with copies sent to the Commissioners. He understood that the "Jack in the Box"
item was being returned to the Commission.
Mr. Iserson advised that because the matter would be heazd again, it may be better to
address the issues in the staff report. He noted that Marion Pavan had been working very
_, closely with the residents. He noted that he would advise the residents that the matter
would be heard again.
Commissioner Fox noted that during the weekends, younger customers tended to drive
through the parking lot at late hours playing loud music.
Historic Preservation Ordinance
Commissioner Maas inquired whether the Historic Preservation Ordinance would be
resurrected.
Mr. Iserson advised that there was existing language addressing historic preservation in
the Code and that design review was the City's ultimate control to address those issues.
He did not know when the Ordinance would be revisited. He noted that the work was not
yet complete.
Commissioner Maas expressed concern about protection of historic buildings that may
fall into disrepair.
Commissioner Fox advised that she attended a work session given by the League of
California Cities which addressed cities that created historical ordinances. She noted that
she had material on that subject to distribute to the Commission if it so desired.
Mr. Iserson noted that the issue was that staff time was at a premium.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES May 26, 2004 Page 12 of 15
