I als o
no tice that the Centur y Hous e is s till lis ted in the futur e CIP budget.
T he C entur y Hous e is a 2.7 acr e pr oper ty and hous e , which have
been clos ed to the public fo r the la s t 11 year s , pending an almo s t $5
M r e s to r a tion. T he C entur y Hous e is ineligible for the National
Regis ter of His tor ic Places , due to no n-his tor ic add-o ns and
co ns tr uction. With the much-hyped, dir e financial s tate of the City for
the next 10 year s , it is highly doubtful that a ny r es tor atio n pr o ject
will ever be appr ove d. S o , divide up the par cel of land, s ave the back
half (or m or e!) alo ng Ta nager Dr. to becom e a co m munity par k. This mo ney co uld fully fund the Libr ar y a s well as s om e of the
o the r r educe d budget item s . S ell the fr o nt po r tio n o f the land (along
S anta Rita) to a developer fo r high dens ity ho us ing which would help
P leas anto n co m ply with the S tate Hous ing Elem ent r equir ements .
T he pr o per ties on both s ides of the pr oper ty along S anta Rita ar e
a lr eady high-dens ity ho us ing units , s o this would fit with the
neighbor hood. The developed po r tio n o f the pr oper ty would yield
develo per fees and e ventual pr ope r ty ta x r evenue, s o this would not
be co ns ider ed “o ne-tim e money”.
P leas e Mayor and City Co uncil me mber s , lis ten to the public who ar e
a s king you to fully fund the Libr ar y. Ther e a r e options if the C ouncil
would o nly choo s e to r ecognize and pr io r itize the va lue the
P leas anto n Libr ar y br ings to the co m munity.
T hank you fo r your tim e
