The pr opo s ed r eductio ns would keep <br />P leas anto n within that r ange . P r opos ed libr ar y ho ur s r eduction <br />r epr e s ents s ta ff’s bes t effor t to achie ve s ignificant s avings while <br />pr e s er ving cor e libr ar y pr ogr am s ”. <br />After co nducting a s e ar ch o f 12 lo cal libr ar ie s ’ ope n ho ur s , I found <br />that while the r ange of hour s offer ed by S taff is co r r e ct, the r epo r t <br />fails to clar ify that a 48-hour week (as pr opo s ed fo r the P leas anton <br />Libr ar y) puts it fir m ly in the botto m quar ter of the lis t—tied with <br />Haywa r d and highe r than only Unio n C ity and Cas tr o Valley. For a city <br />which pr ides its e lf o n the qua lity of its e ducational s ys tem and high <br />level o f s er vices to its r es idents , this is em bar r as s ing.
