THE CITY OF <br />M 1 . m: m ��i�n M1 1 111 <br />PLEASANTON, <br />Nonfunctional Turf Conversion <br />for AB 1572 <br />Project Number: 26787 <br />Department: Public Works - Engineering <br />Project Phase: Design & Construction <br />Total Budget: $1,100,000 <br />CIP Rating Score: 92 <br />Project Description: <br />This project aims to convert approximately 2.4 acres of <br />nonfunctional turf across 11 locations within the city to <br />mulch or drought -tolerant plantings. It includes a design <br />phase to modify irrigation systems and create a sus- <br />tainable landscape design, followed by a construction <br />phase to implement the turf reduction plan as outlined <br />in the 2024 Citywide Turf Reduction Study. The project <br />supports water conservation efforts and improves the <br />aesthetic and ecological value of these areas. <br />Project Funding <br />i <br />Project Justification: <br />This project aims to comply with the California State <br />Assembly Bill 1572 (AB 1572), prohibiting the use of <br />potable water to irrigate nonfunctional turf. The <br />goal of AB 1572 is to reduce unnecessary water use <br />in support of the City's water conservation efforts <br />and improve the aesthetic and ecological value of <br />these areas.
