IN THE AMOUNT OF $485,624 FOR THE ANNUAL CURB AND GUTTER FOR STREET RESURFACING PROJECT, CIP NO. 25509, AND APPROVE BUDGET AMENDMENTS IN THE GAS TAX FUND SUMMARY This annual project, which removes and replaces damaged concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters, includes installing or modifying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian access ramps where none exist or are significantly out of compliance with current ADA standards and the installation and/or modification of pedestrian push buttons to meet new ADA standards. The project was designed in-house, then competitively bid for construction. Staff recommends the City Council award the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Villalobos & Associates, Inc. in the amount of $485,624. RECOMMENDATION 1. Award a construction contract for Annual Curb and Gutter for Street Resurfacing Project, CIP No. 25509 to Villalobos & Associates, Inc. of Campbell, CA, for the low bid amount of $485,624. 2. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the construction contract with Villalobos & Associates, Inc. 3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change orders for a project contingency amount not to exceed $73,000 (approximately 15 percent of the contract). 4. Approve budget amendments in the Gas Tax Fund (Fund 160), transferring $59,322 from the Annual Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations (ADA), (CIP No. 25505), to the Annual Curb and Gutter for Street Resurfacing Project, (CIP No. 25509). BACKGROUND The project removes and replaces the curb and gutter in identified locations to improve stormwater drainage and damaged sidewalks that are potential trip hazards. Pedestrian access ramps damaged, missing, or significantly out of compliance with current ADA standards will be upgraded as part of the project. DISCUSSION The Annual Curb and Gutter for Street Resurfacing Project, CIP No. 25509, will remove and replace approximately 3,500 square feet of sidewalk and 660 linear feet of curb and gutter, install 51 new pedestrian ramps, construct improvements to 7 existing pedestrian ramps to bring them into ADA compliance, replace 380 linear feet of median island curb, and install new or modify existing pedestrian push-button poles to meet new ADA standards.
