Page 1 of 3 <br />Item #6 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> <br />January 16, 2024 <br />Public Works - Operations Division <br /> <br />TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF TWO FREIGHTLINER M2106 DUMP TRUCKS <br />WITH NATIONAL AUTO FLEET GROUP IN THE AMOUNT OF $503,576 <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br />As scheduled in the Vehicle Replacement Plan, the expected replacement of Units 223 and <br />224 (large dump trucks) is essential for operational efficiency as these trucks play a crucial role <br />in towing and hauling materials and debris to and from work sites. The current units are <br />Freightliner FL70 models with a 7–yard dump box; both are scheduled for replacement in the current <br />fiscal year (FY 2023/24). Both units have been out of compliance with emissions standards since <br />January 1, 2020, per the California Air Resources Board. The standard useful lifespan of a <br />dump truck is 10–15 years; units 223 and 224 have exceeded the standard useful lifespan at <br />22 and 23 years old, respectively. The proposed dump trucks come equipped with backup <br />cameras and ABS braking systems and are priced at $218,946 ($437,892 for both vehicles), <br />and with a 15 percent contingency the total amount for City Council approval is $503,576. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Authorize the purchase of two 2025 Freightliner M2106, DD8 7.7L 6 CYL Dual Stage <br />330 HP Engine, Allison 3500 RDS Transmission with 12’ Duraclass 7 Yard Dump Body <br />dump trucks. <br />2. Authorize the City Manager to execute a Purchase Order with National Auto Fleet <br />Group in the amount of $503,576, inclusive of a 15 percent contingency. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The standard useful lifespan of a dump truck is 10–15 years; units 223 and 224 have <br />exceeded the standard useful lifespan at 22 and 23 years old, respectively. Their replacement <br />is necessary given their daily usage for the City's maintenance operations. The current units <br />are a Freightliner FL70 with a 7–yard dump box. Both units have been out of compliance with <br />emissions standards since January 1, 2020, per the California Air Resources Board.
