20.36.100 <br />(Pleasanton Supp. No. 29, 1-23) 834 <br /> A. Louvered windows shall not be installed in <br />areas accessible from the exterior of the building. Out- <br />side hinges on accessible side of windows shall have <br />nonremovable pins. Exposed hinge screws shall be of <br />the nonremovable type. <br /> B. Exterior transoms, with any dimension ex- <br />ceeding 12 inches, shall be of approved burglary resis- <br />tant material. <br /> C. Skylights shall be protected by one-half inch <br />diameter iron bars or one by one-fourth inch flat steel or <br />a steel grill of at least one-eighth inch material of two <br />inch mesh under the skylight and securely fastened. <br /> D. Hatchways shall be covered on the inside <br />with at least 16 gauge sheet steel or equivalent and shall <br />be secured from the inside with a slide bar or slide bolt <br />and/or padlocks with hardened steel shackles. Hasps <br />shall be hardened steel and bolted. Outside pin-type <br />hinges shall be provided with nonremovable pins. Ex- <br />posed hinge screws shall be of the nonremovable type. <br /> E. Air duct or air vent openings exceeding <br />eight inches by 12 inches shall be secured by iron bars <br />of at least one-half inch diameter or one by one-fourth <br />inch flat material spaced five inches apart and securely <br />fastened, or by a steel grill of at least one-eighth inch <br />material of not more than two-inch mesh and securely <br />fastened. Barriers on the outside shall be secured with <br />rounded head flush bolts. <br /> F. Entrance doors to individual office suites <br />shall have a dead bolt lock with a minimum one-inch <br />throw. (Prior Code § 2-12.83) <br /> <br />20.36.100 Commercial buildings—Ladders. <br /> Ladders (excluding escapes) located on the exte- <br />rior of a building which could provide access to the roof <br />shall be secured from unauthorized use by covering the <br />rungs with an approved barrier locked in place with a <br />padlock. The padlock shall have a minimum of five pin <br />tumblers and be of case-hardened steel. Hinges used <br />shall be of a nonremovable type. The barrier shall pro- <br />vide a minimum of eight feet of continuous covering <br />extending 12 feet above ground level or to the top of <br />ladder, whichever is lower. (Prior code § 2-12.84) <br /> <br />20.36.110 Commercial buildings—Lighting. <br /> All non-residential exterior lighting shall meet the <br />requirements in the current California Energy Efficiency <br />Standards. (Ord. 2241 § 2, 2022; Ord. 2197 § 2, 2019; <br />prior code § 2-12.85) <br /> <br />20.36.120 Residential units—Doors. <br /> Section 101.3 Scope is amended by deleting item <br />D, and re-numbering remaining items to read as follows: <br /> <br />Each exterior door shall be secured as follows: <br />A. Exterior doors (excluding glass patio doors) <br />and doors leading from garage areas into <br />dwelling shall be of solid core no less than <br />one and three-eighths inch thickness. <br />B. Exterior doors leading from outside to inte- <br />rior of attached garage shall be of solid core <br />no less than one and three-eighths inch <br />thickness. <br />C. Exterior doors (excluding glass patio doors) <br />and doors leading from garage areas into <br />dwellings shall have a self-locking lock with <br />deadlatch. <br />D. The deadlatch lock and dead bolt lock on the <br />same door shall be keyed alike (one key will <br />fit both locks). <br />E. Pairs of doors shall have flush bolts with a <br />minimum throw of five-eighths inch at the <br />head and foot (floor and ceiling) of the inac- <br />tive leaf. <br />F. Doorstop on a wooden jamb for an in-swing <br />door shall be of one-piece construction with <br />the jamb joined by a rabbet. <br />G. Nonremovable pin or interlocking stud-type <br />hinge shall be used in pin-type hinge which <br />is accessible from the outside when the door <br />is closed. <br />H. Cylinders shall be so designed or protected <br />that they cannot be gripped by pliers or other <br />wrenching devices. <br />I. The lock or locks shall be operated from the <br />inside of the door by a device not requiring a <br />key. <br />J. Locks shall be provided on all sliding patio <br />doors. <br />K. Sliding patio glass doors opening onto patios <br />or balconies which are less than one story <br />above grade or are otherwise accessible <br />from the outside shall have the moveable <br />section of the door sliding on the inside of <br />the fixed portion of the door or possess an <br />approved secondary lock mounted on inte- <br />rior of moveable section. <br />L. The lock bolt on all glass patio doors shall <br />engage the strike sufficiently to prevent its <br />being disengaged by any possible movement <br />of the door within the space or clearance <br />provided for installation and operation. The <br />strike area shall be of material adequate to <br />maintain effectiveness of bolt strength.
