Subject FW: Lund Ranch 2
t7irPLF.MENTAL MATERIAL.
Pruvkied to the City Council
Alto! ;C' stribution of Packet
From: Agnes Lamont /
Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2015 9:44 AM Date G E l7
To: Mayor and City Council
Subject: Lund Ranch 2
Mayor Thorne and City Council,
I have attended meetings about the proposed development of Lund Ranch 2 and know how very acrimonious the issue of
access has become between my MissionNentana Hills and Sycamore neighbors. I live in the middle (literally on
Middleton Place!) and would like to offer input on the Lund Ranch 2 issue.
First of all, can we please delay this and other development until we have recovered from the drought (including
groundwater replenishment) and have contingencies in place for the inevitable future droughts? Also, let's use this time to
address the over - development issues we are already experiencing, including traffic safety and congestion city wide.
If/when the property is developed, I respectfully request that our street continue to be able to access amenities such as
schools, park and shopping through Independence and not be forced through a long, circuitous route via Sycamore. We
have been doing this for almost 20 years so are not placing any new traffic burdens on anyone by continuing to do so and
we travel fewer miles and use less gas this way.
No longer merely a neighborhood park, Mission Hills Park is now experiencing extremely high usage as a sports field and
destination, with cars parked on both sides of the street. Traffic on Junipero has also increased significantly, both in terms
of volume and speed, over the past several years. This is creating an alarming potential for accidents and fatalities,
especially given how many young children are affected. In the mornings and evenings there is a lot of cut through traffic.
None of this affects me too directly but I think it is a big issue for the residents along Junipero, which is really designed as
a winding residential street, not a safe thoroughfare. In all fairness the Sycamore route is better equipped to deal with
more traffic, being wider, straighter and lower housing density. But I fear the intransigence and litigious rumblings by many
of the Sycamore neighbors may co -erce the Council to route additional traffic through Independence /Junipero. That is, in
my opinion, a dangerous option unless there is a costly major overhaul of traffic and roads along the
Independence /Junipero route. I am concerned that the PP issue is being used as a blunt force weapon and is detracting
from finding a genuine solution and is likely to lead to wasting hard - earned taxpayer dollars on lawsuits.
At the planning commission meeting, someone (John Bauer if I recall) suggested building the Lund Ranch 2 access route
through some lower open land that is owned by the Sycamore folks. That seems to open up the option of a negotiated
settlement wherein hillside land could be "swapped" for the flatter access land and the PP issue and attendant legal action
could be avoided. I would like to see that possibility explored.
In conclusion, I'd like to thank you all for your service to our community and I hope you will have the wisdom and courage
to make decisions that will make Pleasanton a better place.
Sincerely,
Agnes Lamont
4974 Middleton Place
Click here to report this email as spam.
1
