-11 i) - <br />July 13th -- League of California Municipalities with reference to contributing <br />for representing it before the hearings of the State Board of <br />Equalization. The Council favored making a contribution of $10.00. <br />Councilman Rivolta moved that this contribution be allowed. Council- <br />man Madsen seconded same and all the Councilmen were in favor. <br />The Clerk was instructed to draw a warrant in favor of the League <br />of California Municipalities and in the amount of X10.00. <br />July 29th - -Works Progress Administration with regards to WPA projects proposed. Filed. <br />August 2nd - -Works Progress Administration meeting in Oakland,Tuesday afternoon, <br />August 6th. Since the Clerk was invited to attend the meeting the <br />Council ordered that he should be present if convenient. <br />August 2nd - -Henry A. Cook with -reference to insurance on the new fire truck. After <br />some discussion among the Council members and advice from hir. Nilson <br />to the affect that the present policy with Mr. Gale's office covered <br />three trucks, it was decided that this new insu-rance,when taken out, <br />should be written under the same policy, providing the insurance on <br />the old truck was canceled. It was also ordered that vrhen the policy <br />expired that some consideration should be given Mr. Cook with <br />reference to either one of the trucks or if this could not be done <br />satisfactorily that he be. considered for' some other municipal insurance. <br />This was done on motion of Councilman Amaral, seconded by Councilman <br />Rivolta and with all the councilmen in favor of same. Mr. Nilson <br />advised that the Council consider fire insurance on the new truck. <br />There was no action taken and the matter was ordered laid over until <br />the next meeting. <br />Joe Passeggi, chairman of the Fiesta del Vino, appeared before the Council with <br />reference to a donation to the celebration. The matter was discussed and action <br />was deferred until later in the meeting. When action was taken it was moved by <br />Councilman- Rivolta and seconded by Councilman Madsen that the Council should <br />donate $100.00. All of the Councilmen were in favor of same and the Clerk was <br />instructed toCdraw a warrant'in favor of the Fiesta del Vino in the amount of <br />$100.00. Councilman Amaral advised they Council that he, -as chairman of the <br />committee of the Fiesta had appointed the reception committee for the affair <br />to include Charles A. Gale, chairman and the members of the City Council and'F. <br />W. Chadbourne and he invited the co- operation of the Council with the success of <br />the committee's work. <br />The Mayor then referred to two officers reports in which suggestions had been <br />made, viz. the report of Dr. Heinz in which he suggested that a Raw Milk Ordinance . <br />be prepared and passed in order that in the future should any occasion arise <br />with regards to raw milk being sold in the community that there might be no <br />hesitancy in taking action and at the same time work an injury on someone starting <br />in that business. He pointed out that a report from the U.S. Public Health Service <br />for 1934 showed that numerous epidemic had been caused by raw milk. Mayor Orloff <br />also discussed the situation reporting that he had been approached by Milk <br />Inspector Dr. Clemens with reference to the matter. Following a short discussion <br />among the Councilmen, City Attorney Vilson was advised to prepare an amendment <br />to the present milk ordinance and to pass /dA" at the next regular meeting of <br />the Council. The suggestions from Fire Chief Letham to the affect "That the <br />Star Patrol b'e transferred to take the place of the Ford Chemical. I would suggest <br />that four more men be added t.o the active list of the department making 16 men in <br />all. I would recommend that a new tank body and new pump be purchased and <br />placed on the Ford Truck and that part of the equipment-be changed from the <br />Star to the Ford Truck ", was then givep consideration. Fire Chief Letham then <br />reported in detail with reference to fWe suggestions and recommendations -which <br />he had made in his report. He also advised that . 22 gallon extinguishers <br />were also needed for the equipment. The Council were at variants with regards <br />to-certain changes Mr. Letham suggested and also what to do with the Star truck. <br />There seemed to be some objection on the part of Councilman Madsen and Councilman <br />Amaral as to doing anything very definite with this truck, except toy unk "it. <br />The or then called upon Fire Chief Letham, Councilman Amaral and fo reman of <br />the Fire Department, James Triminghp for special opinions with regards to what should <br />be done since they were present and -all active in the Department. Mr. Letham advised <br />with regards to some troubles of the equipment and to the affect that "the body was <br />good'although °the motor was a little faulty: He also stated that the new truck <br />chassis was available and that a little in excess of $600. was on hand with which to <br />purchase a new body and new pump. Councilman Amaral advised that the Star truck should <br />be discarded because he believed'it obsolete and beyond repair. He also stated that <br />it was necessary to have all fire - fighting equipment in proper shape and that he <br />was in favor of "fewer fire- fighting units and greater efficiency'as regards each. <br />He also remarked that he was for the Council doing what it could to assist the Fire <br />Department, but he would like'to hear direct from the Department and the Farm Bureau <br />committee as to what they were expecting the town to do. Mr. Trimingham advised <br />that the Star truck had 'done good'work but at times it had been greatly overloaded,. <br />He also advised that "it. could be remodeled and thus permit it do do further work <br />for the Department': Mayor Orloff advised with regards to a meeting held on August <br />1st with fire department members etc. at which various matters were brought up and <br />that he had been questioned as to what the Council would do. He advised that he <br />answered the queries to the affect that he could not speak for the Council. He <br />also advised that the Department was anxious to have the municipality take over <br />the Star truck for a nominal amount and he advised the Council to consider this. <br />He also advised that a donation to assist the Fire Department with its activities <br />had been discussed. General discussion "then followed between the Councilmen and <br />it was generally agreed that further information should be received as to what <br />was definitely being contemplated as regards changing the equipment etc. On motion <br />
