12 (1 <br />f� <br />Milk Inspector:--Showing laboratory report of milk samples for the month of February. <br />Ashton Britten: -- Showing laboratory report of work done at sewer farm during the month <br />of February. <br />Building Inspector: -- Showing that two building permits had been issued during the month <br />of February.- <br />The reports were referred to the finance committee for audit and report. <br />The following communications tiere read: <br />February l0tb -- Division of Highways, advising of apportionment of January, 1938 payment <br />of one - quarter cent gas allocation, advising that the allocation for <br />Pleasanton was a293.87- <br />February 18th - -Fred E. Reed, president of the East Bay Plan Association and asking for <br />the opportunity of-being heard at a meeting of the Council. <br />February 23d-- Oakland Committee asking for co- operation in the preparation <br />of the new booklet for Metropolitan Oakland. <br />February 24th- -State Compensation Insurance Fund advising that compensation insurance <br />policy would expire March 24th. <br />February"24th -- Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District with reference to Hesolution <br />No. 1578 passed by the Board of Directors of the Golden Gate Bridge <br />and Highway District and its meeting held on February 23d. <br />March 1st: -- Telegram from William J. Hamilton, chairman of the Board of Supervisors <br />of Alameda County inviting the Mayor and the City Council to attend <br />a conference on March 3d in the chambers of the Board of Supervisors <br />of Alameda County with reference to the advisability of the Toll Bridge <br />Authority for the purchasing of the Southern Pacific - Golden Gate <br />Ferries, for $3,7509000. <br />A recess followed during which the finance committee examined Claims No. 306'to <br />354 inclusive and amounting to $888.99. After the meeting had been called to order <br />again, Councilman Rivolta of the finance committee reported that the committee had <br />examined and approved the claims and made a motion to the affect that they be paid. <br />His motion was seconded by Councilman Councilman Rivolta reported that the <br />officers monthly reports were accepted and.-he moved that they be placed on file. <br />There were no objections to same. <br />Action on the communications were taken as follows: <br />February 10th: Division of Highways. Filed. <br />February 18th: - -Fred E. Reed. The Clerk advised that he had written Mr. Reed that <br />he might appear before the meeting, but he did not respond. <br />February 2 rd: -- Metropolitan Oakland Committee. The Clerk advised that he was willing <br />to do what might be required of the committee in connection with the <br />new booklet. <br />February 24th: - -State Compensation Insurance Fund. The policy was ordered renewed. <br />February 24th -- Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District. Filed. <br />March lstb -= Telegram from William J. Hamilton, chairman of the board of Supervisors <br />of Alameda County. The Mayor reported that he attended the meeting and <br />that it was agreed at the meeting that the rates on the Bay Bridge should <br />be reduced for a certain period to the amount charged by the Southern <br />Pacific on its ferries. Mayor Orloff advised that the Metropolitan Area <br />was opposed to the ferries being purchased and also stated that the <br />franchise would expire in 1941. <br />Councilman Amaral brought up the matter of an appropriation from the <br />Council to the Metropolictan Oakland Committee. He stated that other cities in the <br />county were doing their part towards raising the necessary funds with which to <br />continue -the work and that he felt that Pleasanton should do something towards <br />meeting its just proportion. Councilman Rivolta suggested a sum'in proportion to <br />what other communities were giving and a short discussion followed. councilman Amaral <br />made a motion that $$100.00 should be appropriated to the committee and Councilman <br />Rivolta seconded the motion with all the councilmen in favor of same. The Clerk asked <br />that the money be madeaavailable at the April 4th meeting and there were no objections <br />to same. It was ordered to advise the Ivletropoli�tat Oakland Committee of the action <br />of the Council. <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities Committee reported that the depart- <br />ment was progressing with satisfaction. He stated that during the short illness of <br />the City Engineer last month that Fred Madsen had been employed for four days as acting <br />engineer. <br />Councilman Amaral of the Laws and Judiciary committee directed the attention of <br />the council to the revenue brought in by the Police Department during the past month. <br />Councilman Trimingham of the Street and Building committee brought to the attention <br />of the Council the cleanup work going on by certain property owners of the community <br />and the dumping of grass etc. on the streets, which not only caused annoyance'�to the <br />department but also made the town look unkept. It was ordered that same should be <br />discouraged until the annual cleanup campaign in May was in progress. fir. Trimingham <br />di-ew=•attention of the Council to the change in the movement of the creek as regards <br />the east end of the slopewall and roadway into the creek - affecting the wall and at <br />the present time willow trees and drift wood saving the slopewall from damage. He <br />also brought up the condition of the west end of the wall and the street being in <br />danger. The Council was urged to look into the slopewall condition and see what <br />could be done to improve the safety of same before it was further impaired. The <br />councilmen were to decide among themselves when they could meet to go over the <br />matter. Mr. Trimingham advised that the Southern Pacific had started work completing <br />the Neal Street crossing, that the tracks had been raised and that the work was now <br />
