1224
The reports were referred to the finance committee for audit and report:
There were no communications received during the month of September.
A recess followed during which the finance committee examined Claims No. 114 to 144 incl-
usive and amounting to $559.06. After the meeting had been called to order, Councilman
Madsen, acting chairman of the finance committee reported that the committee had examined
and approved the claims and made a motion to. the effect that they be paid. His motion was
seconded by Councilman Amaral, and with all the councilmen present in favor of same. Council.
man Madsen reported that the officers monthly reports were accepted and he moved that they
be placed on file. There wereno objections to same.
Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities Committee had nothing in particular to report.
Councilman Madsen, did, however, draw to the attention of the Council, complaints which
have come to him with regards the garbage situation. He pointed out that at his own home
the situation had become such that he had to make a complaint of his own. The Clerk
questioned, the Mayor with regards to who was to be responsible for the garbage situation
and under whose jurisdiction it came. Councilman Amaral responded to the effect that /
he had believed that same concerned his department and as such had been interested in
seEing the matter handled and he recommended that the Zunino matter be given serious
consideration. Acting Mayor Rivolta spoke 'in behalf of the matter and felt that 'Mr.
Amaral should continue to handle same and that if there were no objections from the
Council that he should look after the situation and complaints in the future be filed
with him. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. Zunino with regards to the Council's
actions and its dispositions and also to request him to appear before the Council at its
next regular meeting on November 1st:_ ;
Councilman maral volunteered to speak to Mr.
Zunino in the meantime in an effort to have him improve his services. Councilman
Madsen spoke with regards to renting the sewer farm,,mentioning that a request had
come from Mr. W. J. Martin with reference= to renting the farm to Mr. Hugh Walker. Mr.
Madsen advised against such proceedure stating that certain work at the farm would be
interferred -with and that the renumeration from the stock would not be sufficient to
overcome the damage done on the premises even though'an assurance had been received
that the premises would be left in good condition. Councilman Olesen also felt that
the rental received would not compensate for the damage done regardless of promises
made and was against anyone pasturing their stock on the.property. Councilinan'xivolta
suggested that in the future a bid be presented on the property as regards rental an:i
that the matter be heard before the Board. Councilman Madsen advised against such
action and asked that the Board go on record as not being in favor of renting the
property and this action was sustained by the Councilmen present.
Councilman Amaral of the Laiµs and Judiciary Committee had nothing in special
report.
Councilman•.Ole'sen of the Street and Building Committee had no special report t)
make. Councilman Olesen, however, did take up the matter of the trees which had been
cut down in the vicinity of the Pleasanton. Hotel by Mrs. Helen Bieler, owner of the
property. He stated that Mrs. Bieler had cut the trees without permission. Attornw
Nilson advised in regards the legality of the matter and suggested that an ordinance _
be drawn to cover the tree situation. Following a discussion on same, the Council
ordered that the matter should be looked into further and the necessary ordinance be
drawn providing there was no ordinance of record to take care of the situation. Council'3
man Olesen reported that.no statement, as regards expenditures made on the Neal Street
.crossing, had been received from the Southern Pacific Company. 'The Clerk, at Council -
man Olesen's suggestion reported that Mr. Mancini had visited him that afternoon and
brc:ught word that Mr. Mattos of the Division of Highways was arranging for a meeting
in Pleasanton at an early date with the City Council.
Councilman Amaral suggested a street light at the plaza in front of the fire e
house on Railroad Avenue and another street light-'.at the entrance to McKinley Park.
The placing of both lights was acceptable to the Council and Councilman Olesen suggested
that following. a suggestion of Mr. Saunders of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, that
a requisition be'prepared authorizing the installation of these lights. The Clerk
was ordered to prepare same and to take the matter up with Mr. Saunders.
The following resolutions were then presented:
Resolution No'. .1625 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal officers'
for the month of September and amounting to_ 7'%0.00. This resolution
was adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman
Amaral and with all the. councilmen present in favor of same.
Resolution No. 1626 Authorizing and directing the Clerk to cancel License No. 17 --
. .Livermore Steam Laundry; Cleaning, $20.009 dated July 1, 193,7 ,
as business was discontinued as of June 30, 1937. This resolution
was adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Council-
man Amaral and with all the councilmen present in favor of same.
There being
regular session,
no further business the meeting ad' urned at 9 'clock to meet in
Monday evening, November 1, 1937 7:30 'clo
Clerk.
