Before ITr. <br />Mancini•s remarks the Clerk read a letter from the Division of Highways under the date of <br />August 12th which in part stated: <br />"the City of Pleasanton had available for expenditure on State Highways, 1/4 cent gas <br />tax funds as follows-:- <br />Revenue 1933 -35 <br />Revenue 1935-37 <br />Estimate 1937 -39 <br />Total Amt. Available <br />no <br />$19534.50 <br />29030.88 <br />2,080.00 <br />65.645.3b <br />1/4 Cent Gas Tax Fend <br />for City Streets of Major Importance <br />Revenue 1936 740:03 <br />Revenue 1937 1,064.69 <br />Estimated Revenue -1938 1,020:00 <br />Total Amount Available $29824.72 <br />Please note that the funds for the Stare Highways afe given for the full 1937 -1939 <br />biennium, while the funds for the City Streets of Zdaajor= Importance only include up to the <br />close of the fiscal yearof 1938•." <br />Mr. Mancini reported on a conversation with Messrs. Duffy and Mattos of the Division <br />in which the latter had made certain recommendations with reference to acquiring more right <br />of -way in an effort to widen Division Street also recommending that the county improve the <br />bridge and widen same. Mr. Mancini stated that Messrs: Duffy and Mattos would be willinly <br />to meet with the Council at any time and discuss the matter and that he (Mancini) would be <br />willing to assist with such a meeting. Acting -Mayor Ambrose Rivolta then appointed <br />Councilman Madsen, Amaral, and Olesen members of a committee to meet "with representatiges <br />of the Division of Highways. <br />There being no further communications to be read and considered, a recess then fol- <br />lowed during which the finance committee examined Claims No. 78 to 113 inclusive.and <br />amounting to $605.75,.after the meeting had been called to order, Councilman Madsen, <br />acting :dhgirmahvdit -,the finance committee reported that the committee had examined and <br />approved the claims and made a motion to the effect that they be paid. His motion was <br />seconded by Councilman Amaral, and with all the councilmen present in favor of same. <br />Councilman Madsen reported that. the officers monthly reports were accepted and he moved <br />that they be placed on file. "There was no objection. Councilman Madsen then took up <br />the matter of the present handling of gasoline purchased by the town. He again voiced <br />disapbroval of same and recommended that all gasoline used by the town be purchased from <br />independent dealers. , Some discussion followed, at its conclusion it was decided as a <br />temporary measure, to purchase gasoline locally after the present supply was consumed. <br />The procedure being to purchase gasoline month�rby month , first of one service then the <br />other. Same was decided on motion of councilmanaseri, secondedby Councilman Amaral <br />and .with• all ''the councilmen present in favor of same. Councilman Amaral suggested that al-1- <br />lowances beY °made the Chief of Police and the nightwatchman, both of whom used their per- <br />sonal cars in Performance of duties for the municipality. After a short discussion it <br />was decided on motion of Councilman Amaral, seconded by Councilman Olesen, and with the. <br />other councilmen in.favor to allow the matter to lay over until Councilman Orloff returned <br />from his trip. <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities Committee had no special report to submit. <br />He, however, wished the Council to hear Mr. Ashton Britten and to consider a proposition <br />he had for submission. Mr. Britten presented his August report, which the Clerk read, <br />after which,IlTr, Britten discussed the inoculating of sceptic tanks with bacteria etc, <br />from the Sewer Farm. He desired to enter into an a rrangment with the municipality where- <br />by the municipality would promote .the project-and receige part of the income. After a <br />discussion, the City Attorney stated same could not be done. He suggested an agreement <br />whereby Mr. Britten would be permitted to use-a by- product from the sewerfarm to further <br />his scheme. Councilman Madsen asked the Council' to give encouragement to the project in' <br />an effort to assist Mr. Britten, in appreciation,of the work which he did for the town <br />without compensation. This the Council was very willing to do. <br />Councilman Amaral, of the Laws and Judicary Committee,.had no special report, He <br />advised that the recent Fiesta had been very orderly and was well conducted. He reported <br />pm spme concession in order to clear up same: <br />Councilman Olesen, of the Street and Building Committee-, reported that the Neal Street <br />crossing and tunnel had been completed and as soon as the tracks were raised the:,ttreet <br />work would be put in. Attorney Nilson reported that he was awaiting word from the Southern <br />Pacific Company with regards the cost of the project. <br />The following resolutinn was then presented: <br />Resolution No. 1623 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the Municipal officers <br />for the month of August and amounting to $770.00. 'i'his resolution <br />was adopted on motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Amaral'and with all the councilmen present voting in favor of same. <br />1221 <br />0 <br />
