1200 <br />A recess.followed during which the finance committee examined claims No. 311 to <br />3431nclusive and amounting to $803.77.' After. the meeting had been called -.to order <br />again, Councilman Rivolta of-the finance committee reported that the committee had <br />examined and approved the claims and made a motion to' the effect that they be paid. <br />His motion was seconded by Councilman Madsen, and with all the Councilmen in favor of <br />same. ' Councilman Rivolta also reported-- that the-officers monthly reports were accepted <br />and moved that they be placed on, file. <br />Action on the communications-was then as follows: <br />January* 25th --Yrs . Marie D. Alameda. Filed-. <br />February 1st': -- Messrs. McLallen & newton. Discussion followed with reference to the <br />trees. Councilman Madsen favored their removal, providing of course, that new trees <br />were planted and that they were properly taken care of. Councilman Rivolta spoke with <br />favor as regards moving certain walnut trees in front of his property. Mr. Cook, was <br />present'in the interests of Messrs. McLallen & Newton and explained what they were willing <br />to do with reference t -o the trees and as to their consideration t the property owners. <br />After some discussion among the councilmen, it was ordered- that Mr. Cook - shou -ld submit <br />a list of the various trees to be taken out and the property owners concerned after <br />which the matter would be. looked into and the Messrs. McLallen and Newton._promptly <br />advised: Mr. Cook was ordered to do so at once in order that.there might be °no delay. <br />Councilman.Madsen of the Public Utilities committee brought to:the attention of <br />the Council two unpaid water bills, W. Crommie $24.30 and Fred.-Willis for $22.00. <br />He stated that both parties had had considerable sickness etc. and -were on relief and <br />needing help. On motion of Councilman Amaral, seconded by C °ouncilman'Madsen, it -was <br />ordered that their account should be cancelled. There was no objections,to same. <br />Councilman Madsen, as a member of the finance committee recommended that gas <br />for the various departments of the town by bought from local dealers instead of in <br />bulk as has been the order for sometime. After some discussion it was ordered that <br />Mr. Rodrigues should keep an accurate check on all gasoline taken from the town pump <br />and see to it that it was chaarged against the proper department: <br />Councilman Amaral of,the Laws and Judiciary committee reported on a meeting held <br />at San Leandro and which he and Mayor-Orloff had attended.' At this meeting representatives <br />of the various municipalities in the bay region were represented and members connected <br />with the California League of Municipalities etc. had addressed the group on legislation <br />now pending in Sacramento as it would effect the furious municipalities. Councilman <br />Amaral also reported that he intended to have full information with regards the sign <br />matter at the next session as he had queried various persons at the meeting in San <br />Leandro and others with reference to what other municipalities were doing as regards <br />the erection of signs and their maintenance. <br />Councilman Rivolta of the finance committee had nothing to report. <br />Councilman Madsen also brought up•the matter' of paying the yearly dues of the <br />municipality to the California Sewage Works Assocktion. On his suggestion, same was <br />ordered paid, the dues amounting to $2.00. <br />Voe Clerk reported that a donation of $20.00 had been received from the Woman's <br />Improvement Club toward the setting out of new trees-within the city limits and he <br />was instructed to acknowledge with thanks the- receipt of same. Also that the State <br />Board of Equalization had approved the new assessment roll forms for the town. <br />Also that the VIPA had sent official notice' that the tree-trimming project had been <br />O.K. and men would be available-for the work on or about February 5th. <br />Mayor Orloff brought up the matter of -the tree -, sidewalk, curb and gutters in the <br />vicinity of the First National Bank. On- motion of Councilman Rivolta, seconded by Council- <br />man Madsen and with all the councilmen present in favor of same, it was ordered that <br />the Clerk should write to the First National Bank requesting it to repair the sidewalk, <br />curb and gutter and' granting permission to the dank to remove the walnut tree in front . of <br />the bank ifrhe,iso desired and within a reasonable time. <br />The following resolution was then presented: <br />Resolution No. 1605, authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal officers <br />for the month of January and amounting to $ 770.00.. On motion of <br />Councilman "Madsen, seconded by Councilman Rivolta and with all <br />the councilmen-present voting in favor of same. <br />There being no further business the meeting adjourne at 9 :30 o!clock, to meet <br />in regular session, Monday evening, March 1st at 7 :(3�9 orc ock-. <br />Approved: <br />Iplyor <br />e <br />
