After the meeting had been called to order
again., Councilman Rivolta of the finance committee reported-,-that the committee had
examined and approved the claims and made a motion to,the effect that they be paid::
His motion was seconded Councilman Madsen and with all the councilmen in favor of
same. Councilman Rivolta also reported that the-officers" monthly report were
accepted and moved that they be placed on file..
Before taking up the regular routine of business, Mr.'Pete Zunino who-had been
called-before the Board on account of the garbage matter 'vas heard. The Mayor questioned
Mr. 'Zunnio why he had failed to gather up the garbage during the two weeks period
passed and advised him that many complaints had been received with regards to the
matter-and he also cautioned him with reference to what might happen in the future
should he fail to comply with his agreement of the Town. Mr. Zunino stated that he
was sick and had been unable to take care-of his work and that he was prevented
from securing anyone to do -.it for him during the first ten days of his illness, but
that he had secured Mr. Adamian within the past few days to clear up the matter.
He was advised by,-the Council that in the future should he be-incapacitated that
he must notify either the Clerk or Marshal with regards to same and at the same
time arrange for someone else to-do his`work or his privileges along that line
would be lost. Mr. Zunino promised to comply with the instructions of the Council.
Councilman Madsen of
work of his department was
Councilman Amaral of
connection with the- carnivi
policemen would be needed
him' to - take .care-- of same.
the Public Utilities committee reported that the
progressing with satisfaction.
the laws and Judiciary committee pointed out that in
3.1 to be-held as part of the .•Fi es.ta Del Vino that extra
and probably an extra nightwatehman. ..The Council ins.tructed
Councilman Olesen of the Street -and Building committee had nothing to
report but he queried Attorney - Nilson with regards to- the Railroad d'rossing in the
Vicinity of the S.P. depot. 'Mr. Nilson then -read a letter from the Railroad Commission
which was as follows: "Tie Commission has referred' the application of the Town of
Pleasanton for permission to widen•and improve Neal Street in that city to Southern
Pacific-Company for a statement of its position, and is in receipt of the following
statement: *We will offer no objections to the granting of the above- mentioned appli-
cation provided the expense of the propose work is divided between the applicant and
our company on,the following basis:
Railroad to bear the expense of-
(1) Preparing its tracks to receive the pavement.
(2) ' Paving and /or repairing the area lying between the rails or each
track and for a distance of two feet outside thereof within the
limits of the present traveled roadway.
(3) Fifty per cent of the cost of moving the existing wigwag and 50 .
per cent of the cost of installing an additional wigway.
The Town of Pleasanton to bear the expense of-
1)• Replacing and extending existing culvert with a 5x8 ft. concrete box.
2) Extension of the existing wooden drainage pipe lying in and parallel
with Neal Street.
(3) Extension of curbs and widewalks and all pavement lying within the
limits of that portion of the roadway to be widened.
(4) Fifty per cent of the cost of moving the existing wigway and 50 per
cent of the cost of installing an. additional wigway.
(5) Maintenance of the crossing up to within, 2 feet of our rails."
At an early date we would appreciate a statement from you as to whether this basis
is satisfactory to the Town of Pleasanton or if you desire that the matter be set
for hearing." Bar. Nilson informed the Board that he would ask that a hearing be"
set on the matter before the Railroad Commission. He also informed the Board that
extra legal work might be required. Councilman Olesen also brought up the placing
of a fire hydrant on the property of Al King on Buena Vista Avenue to be used for
fire fighting purposes. After some discussion it was decided that Mr. King might,
place a hydrant at his own expense and also set it that the water used would be
read through his .meter. It was also advised that a new two, inch meter might be
necessary and that same would cost $65.00 and the Council seemed a little reluctant
about placing such meter on-the King prope *.
Ashton Britten - appeared before the Council and advised that the sewer farm
was -being cleaned up and that the smell from it at the present time had been
alarming to some residents of the community who felt "that he wasn't doing his work
properly and he wanted to correct'same. He explained that same -would be improper
shape before the Fiesta.
Mr. Schween appearing "in.; behalf -Iof the Fiesta Del Vino Committee asked that consider-
ation be given to a cash donation to the Association. The Council was of the opinion
that numerous courtesies had already been extended and that in all probability
considerable would be expended for policing and it was reluctant to do anything at
this time. It was felt that if the Fiesta did not meet its expenses then probably
the Council might be willing to do something, otherwise the Council thought that
enough money was on hand in the Association funds to me -et the expenses of the Fiesta.
Councilman Amaral was willing to do the right things ,.._. the- Association,
but concurred in the remarks of the "others.
Councilman Rivolta brought up the, matter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce
sign and after a short discussion of the matter, it was laid over for some future
meeting at which time the matter of establishing an advertising fund would be gone
into more carefully.
