1144 <br />September 3: - -Lee H. Newbert, Division Manager*of the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. <br />The matter was referred to City Attorney Nilson with instructions to advise the <br />Council concerning same a.t the October meeting. <br />Councilman Madsen of the Public Utilities comittee reported that the roof <br />on the sump station at the park had ieceived attention. He also brought up the <br />matter of nuisance being created in public places and especially at the Uliano <br />place on Saturday evening, August 31st. He asked that all places of business <br />of the type of,Mr. Ulinao be kept in harmony with the Fiesta and that there <br />be no ouburst of riotouness. Mr. Madsen's introduction of this matter into <br />the Council meeting brought Councilman Amaral to his feet and he advised that he <br />had intended to take the matter up in the course of his report and since Council- <br />man Madsen had mentioned it that he would give the facts concerning the case. <br />At the conclusion of his remarks, Councilman Amaral suggested that Mr. Uliano <br />be brought before a Council meeting and show why his license should not be revoked. <br />Also that a charge should be made against him for violating the law and disturbing <br />the peace of his neighbors. Constable Vervais was in the audience and he was <br />asked for a report on the Uliano affadr since he had been brought into the affair. <br />Discussion of the whole matter followed among the Councilmen and Attorney Nilson <br />was asked for advice,with regards to closing Mr. Uliano's place of business. <br />Mr. Nilson advised'that the situation was one that should be handed by the State <br />Board of Equalizations in view of the fact that the main licenses issued to Ivlr. <br />Uliano had been issued by the Board of Equalization. At the conclusion of the <br />discussion it was decided that the Chief of Police should see Judge Gale about <br />the matter and that action should be taken by I;Ir. Delucchi after that. <br />9 <br />Councilman Amaral then introduced an ordinance "Prohibiting the sale of <br />milk other than pasteurized milk and certified milk, for human consumption in <br />the Town-of Pleasanton." This ordinance was allowed to lay on the table until the <br />October 7th meeting for action. <br />Mr. Britten was in the audience and asked to be allowed to address the council. <br />The necessary permission was granted and Mr. Britten advised with reference to the <br />electric rate at the sewer farm being a little bit higher than previously. He <br />also explained present conditions at the sewer farm and.w hat he was accomplishing, <br />Councilman Olesen reported that the S.E.E.A. had been concluded as such, but <br />that further work would progress under WPA, although part of same had been authorized <br />previously as an SERA project. ',He brought up the matter of trees on Angela Street <br />and the necessity of having some removed. It was ordered that the City Council <br />should look over these trees before they were removed. Also Councilman Olesen <br />spoke with regards to making an allowance to Mr. Bruce for the use of his property <br />on railroad Avenue where street equipment, sand and gravel were stored by the <br />municipality. It was ordered that the Council should also look into the space and <br />determine a fiar rental on same. Councilman Olesen spoke with reference to the <br />visit of Messrs.-Chase and Hipkin to Pleasanton from WPA, headquarters with reference <br />to putting in the slope wall on Division Street. He also reported that Mr. <br />Mancini was making progress with the plans and specifications for fixing Division <br />Street. <br />Fire Chief Letham was in the audience and he was called upon for a few <br />remarks. He advised that he had nothingto say but other than to recommend that <br />the motor on the big truck ne`ed'ed attention and that a large pump should be <br />installed on the new-fire fighting equipment. Discussion followed with reference <br />to the recommendations of the equipment mentioned. Mr. Letham also advised that <br />he would be away at Sacramento to the State's Fire chief Convention which convenes <br />in Sacramento;.,September 9, 10 and 11. Oouncilman Rivolta presented an application <br />of Mr. Joe-Rose in regards to the old chemical tanks on the Star outfit in which <br />Mr. Rose asked that the tanks be given him and he in turn would equip a trailer <br />for use in the outlying district. It was ordered that the Council should look <br />into this apparatus before disposing of ,them to .Mr. Rose. <br />The Clerk advised the Council that.a special meeting would be held on <br />Tuesday, September loth at which time the tax rate would be set. <br />The following resolutions were then introduced: <br />Resolution No. 1555 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal officers' <br />and amounting to 4745.00. <br />Resolution No. 1556 -- Authorizing the Clerk toi cancel License No. 178, dated April <br />1, 1935, Dr. A. .Bailey $12.00 on account of leaving tovn and License No. 40, <br />dated July 1, 1935 - A. Nieto, $16.00 on account of discontinuing deliveries in <br />July. <br />Action on the resolutions were taken as follows: <br />Resolution No. 1555 -- Adopted on motion of'Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Olesen and with all the councilmen in favor of same. <br />rr n n <br />No. 1556 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Amaral, seconded by Councilman <br />Madsen and with all the councilmen in favor.of same. <br />Councilman Rivolta recommended to the Board that the Clerk represent the <br />Municipality at the anntiial ' League of California Municipality convention in San <br />Francisco, September 23 =26 inclusive. Councilman Amaral was of the opinion that <br />all of the councilmen should make an effort to go to the convention at least one <br />day that it was in session. The Mayor felt that the Clerk was the logical man to <br />attend all of the sessions and accordingly it was ordered that the Clerk should go <br />as the official representative and that as many councilmen as could do so should <br />also attend the sessions. <br />
