they have the personnel to keep the populations under control and the livestock
safe from attacks. How will the City help to resolve this conflict when it demands
dedications of open space to maintain wildlife?
The Family has spent thousands of dollars helping the City of
Pleasanton, at no charge to the City, develop Right-To -Farm Policies, yet no I 15.3
explanations, nor a means to implement these policies when needed, are included
in the Update.
The South Livermore Plan includes a means for providing water to
agricultural lands and operations. Unfortunately, Pleasanton has no such plan,
forcing ranches to operate on dry-land fanning only, thus precluding any future 15.4
possibilities for sustainable, viable agriculture. What plan does the City of
Pleasanton offer to sustain agriculture when there comes a time for the rancher to
change the type of operation in order to remain in business?
All farming and ranching in this area is subsidized today by means
outside of the operation (e.g. developing portions of the property, both husband
and wife working jobs outside of the ranch). Because agriculture is no longer 15.5
self- sustaining in this urban envimnmcnt, what meats does the City and the
General Plan Update offer to keep agriculture viable in this arca?
Thank you for your time and help, and for your consideration in including our
remarks prior to review of the raft General Plan Update by the Planning Commission
and the City Council.
Yours truly,
car
Al St LeVerne Spotomo
Joanne Zachariades
John Spotomo
