THE CITY OF 6
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ ASANTON®
June 2, 2009
Community Development
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: ADOPT RESOLUTION REPLACING THE TWO -HOUR LIMITED TIME
PARKING ZONE WITH A THREE -HOUR LIMITED TIME PARKING ZONE
IN THE DOWNTOWN
SUMMARY
The Pleasanton Downtown Association has requested that the City replace existing two
hour parking zones in the downtown with three -hour parking zones. The Municipal Code
sets forth various limited time parking zones and provides that the City Council by
resolution may designate a street as a limited time parking zone. Previously, Section
11.36.210 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code only permitted twenty- minute, one -hour,
two -hour and four -hour parking zones. At the May 5, 2009, Council meeting, staff
introduced an ordinance amending the Municipal Code to establish a three -hour limited
time parking zone category. The ordinance was adopted at the May 19, 2009, City
Council meeting, and will become effective 30 days from that date (June 19). To assist
the Pleasanton Downtown Association, staff would like to see three -hour limited time
parking implemented as soon as possible. Because the ordinance establishing the
three -hour category must become effective prior to establishment of three -hour limited
time parking in the downtown, the resolution recommended for adoption contains
language allowing three -hour limited time parking to be established once the ordinance
becomes effective.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution replacing the existing two -hour parking limited time
parking zone in the downtown area with a three -hour limited time parking zone.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Existing two -hour limited time parking zone signage will be replaced with three -hour
limited time parking zone signage. The Pleasanton Downtown Association will be
responsible for the cost of the replacement signage. City staff will purchase and install
the signage.
