MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL July 9, 2002 1. CALL TO ORDER - PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The special meeting of the City Council was called to order by Mayor Tom Pico at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Pico led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. 2. ROLL CALL Those present were: Councilmembers Kay Ayala, Matt Campbell, Becky Dennis, Sharrell Michelotti, and Mayor Tom Pico. Staffmembers present were: Deborah McKeehan, City Manager; Michael Roush, City Attorney; Brian Swift, Director of Planning and Community Development; James W. Wolfe, Director of Parks and Community Services; and Lisa Adamos, Economic Development Specialist. Mayor Pico acknowledged the untimely death of Randall A. Lum, the Director of Public Works. He expressed sincere condolences to Mr. Lum's family. Mr. Lum was a very special individual with a unique ability to conduct meetings, take tough questions and respond in an articulate and intelligent way. People felt they were treated with respect and fairness. His loss has a significant impact on City staff and the community. Ms. Michelotti said Mr. Lum worked well with people and had the ability to bring differing views together and find consensus. He was a man of integrity and people always felt he was being honest on the City's behalf. She extended her condolences to his family and to his co- workers, who considered him a friend and beloved colleague. The City will miss him. Ms. Dennis echoed the previous comments. She announced that the City had established a memorial fund in honor of Mr. Lum to be used for the education of his only son. She commented that Mr. Lum was well-liked by everyone and related an incident when she had gone to a community meeting regarding Kottinger Ranch and the citizens had suggested that he nm for Mayor.
