MINUTES
OF THE
MEETING
OF THE
PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL

March 7, 2000

6:30 P.M. CLOSED SESSION

A closed session was held to confer with Real Property Negotiator Deborah
Acosta regarding potential purchase of property for the proposed South Pleasanton golf
course: and to confer with legal counsel regarding potential litigation against the
Regional Water Quality Control Board concerning groundwater injection.

The closed session was held after the Council meeting.

YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT DAY

1. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Justin Betts for Mayor Tarver at 7:00 p.m.

Ms. Michelotti introduced Andrew Whelan, who led the assembly in the pledge of
allegiance. Ms. Michelotti welcomed the students who were participating in the Youth in
Government Day as well as the members of the Amador Valley High School Competition
Civics Class. She then referred to a recent campaign mailing by Mr. Torlakson. She
indicated she had signed the letter as an individual. The letter gave the impression that it
came from the City Council as a body and was on City of Pleasanton letterhead. She
wanted to clarify that this was not sent by the City of Pleasanton and Mr. Torlakson has
apologized/br it. She was informed that candidates can legally use this type of format.
She assured the residents that this type of campaign material will not be used again.
Even though it is legal, she did not think it was right.

Andrew Whelan thanked all the departments and staff members who participated
in this program and for allowing the students to be with them for a day. It was a very
beneficial experience and he had a new found respect for the Police Department where he
shadowed a detective.

Other members of the program introduced themselves and indicated who they
shadowed for a day as follows: Jannell Richardson/Police; Samara Wright/Civic Arts
Department; Justin Betts/Public Works; Sam Weaver/Police; Sandra Oldaker/City Clerk;
Will Kearl/City Attorney; Shannon Hensicy/City Manager; and Mike Taylor/Fire
Department.

Pleasanton City Council 1 03/07/00
Minutes
