MINUTES <br /> OF <br /> THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> July 7, 1998 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br /> Mayor Ben Tarver called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Pico led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. He was disappointed <br /> with the gun fire that happened at the Fairgrounds the evening of July 4. He was thankful <br /> nobody was killed. He said Alameda County and the City are working together to prevent this <br /> from happening in the future. He said the Fair is a great event and encouraged people to attend. <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL <br /> <br /> City Clerk Peggy L. Ezidro called the roll, which is recorded as follows: <br />Councilmembers present were Kay Ayala, Becky Dennis, Sharrell Michelotti, Thomas P. Pico, <br />Jr. and Mayor Ben Tarver. Staff members present were: Deborah Acosta, City Manager; <br />Michael H. Roush, City Attorney; Brian W. Swift, Director of Planning and Community <br />Development; Randall A. Lum, Director of Public Works; Eileen Morley, Senior Supervisor, <br />Human Services; Roger Higdon, Assistant Director of Public Works; Dave Iremonger, Treasury <br />Supervisor; and Wayne Rasmussen, Principal Planner. <br /> <br />3. AGENDA AMENDMENTS <br /> <br /> Ms. Acosta requested that Item 4m, Geologic Hazard Abatement District (GHAD) for <br />Laurel Creek Estates, Tracts 6400 and 6509, be continued to a future meeting and that Item 6d, <br />the appeal of Early Learning Institute, has been withdrawn by the applicant. Ms. Acosta said <br />she had received a number of phone calls and e-mail messages regarding the community's <br />concerns about the shootings at the Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds is located on property owned <br />by Alameda County and is supervised by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The <br />Fairgrounds Association oversees the day to day operation of the Fairgrounds. The Fairground <br />Association contracts with the Alameda County Sheriff's department to provide security during <br />the Fair.
