5
THE CITY OF
° #M ; , MCITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON.
July 18, 2023
Engineering
TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD
A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO ELLA IN THE AMOUNT OF $414,430
FOR THE KEN MERCER CRICKET FIELD PROJECT, CIP NO. 22795
SUMMARY
The Ken Mercer Cricket Field Project will construct the City's first dedicated cricket field,
at the existing Hardball Field B in the Ken Mercer Sports Park. The project will convert
the existing hardball field into an oval grass field approximately 360 feet wide by 390
feet long, including a 90-foot-by-10-foot synthetic turf cricket pitch in the center of the
oval.
Construction drawings were completed in April 2023 and bids were received on June
14, 2023. Staff recommends awarding the construction contract to the lowest
responsible bidder, ELLA in the amount of $414,430 for the Ken Mercer Cricket Field
Project, CIP No. 22795. The cricket field will be constructed this fall during the regularly
scheduled closure of the fields. Limited/no additional maintenance is expected due to
the construction of the field.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council:
1. Approve plans and specifications, review bids, and award the construction
contract for the project to ELLA for the low bid amount of$414,430.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the project contract with ELLA.
3. Authorize the Director of Engineering to approve and execute contract change
order(s) for a project contingency amount of$42,000 (approximately 10 percent
of the contract) for unforeseen yet necessary related work.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Available project funding totals $550,000 with anticipated total expenditures of
$485,573. This includes $42,000 in project contingency and $29,143 for design services
and advertising. Funding and anticipated project expenditures are detailed in
Attachment 1 .
