14
THE CITY OF
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON,
June 20, 2023
Police
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PLEASANTON AUTHORIZING APPLICATION TO THE BOARD OF
STATE AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS' ORGANIZED RETAIL
THEFT PREVENTION GRANT PROGRAM
SUMMARY
The California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) administers and
sponsors significant public safety-related grant programs. City staff seeks authorization
to apply for the recently created Organized Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program
(ORT), to address both organized retail theft as well as motor vehicle and motor vehicle
accessory theft within Pleasanton.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution to authorize the City Manager to submit an application for a
California Board of State and Community Corrections' Organized Retail Theft
Prevention Grant.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The BSCC ORT grant will provide funding to support law enforcement services by
increasing the Police Department's ability to prevent and respond to organized retail
theft and to motor vehicle and motor vehicle accessory theft. This grant may be used to
fund salaries, benefits, services, supplies, data collection and evaluation, equipment
and fixed assets, a financial audit, travel, training, and indirect costs, thereby reducing
General Fund expenditures. No City matching funds are required to benefit from this
grant award. Awarded grant funds will be appropriated to the Operations Grant Fund in
fiscal years 2023/24, 2024/25, 2025/26, and 2026/27.
