15
THE CITU Of
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PL£ASANTON.
June 6, 2023
Operations Services
TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A REPLACEMENT GENERATOR FROM
PETERSON CAT IN THE AMOUNT OF $145,081 FOR THE OPERATIONS
SERVICES CENTER
SUMMARY
The Operations Services Department (OSD) is responsible for City facilities during
power outages, Public Safety Power Shut Offs (PSPS) events and other emergencies.
Staff is requesting the purchase of a new 250 kW generator to replace the existing
decommissioned generator that provides backup power to the Operations Service
Center (OSC) corporation yard. A backup generator is vital to keep the City's water and
sewer pump stations operational during PSPS events, emergency power outages and
other emergencies that can occur.
The new 250 kW generator will be following the California Air Resources Board (CARB)
diesel-powered guidelines. A CARB-compliant generator is one that has been certified
to meet federal and state regulations.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the purchase of a 250 kW generator for the Operations Services Center and
authorize the City Manager to execute a purchase order with Peterson CAT in the
amount of $126,157 with a 15 percent contingency of $18,924 bringing the total amount
to $145,081.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The purchase will be funded by Capital Improvement Project OSC Generator
Replacement #23456, which is currently budgeted at $575,000.
