11 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> ::. ir' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTON- <br /> January <br /> 17, 2023 <br /> Police <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE CALIFORNIA STATE <br /> DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TOBACCO GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF <br /> $431,459 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The California State Department of Justice (CA DOJ) directs state funds to support the <br /> enforcement of tobacco related state laws or local ordinances specifically relating to the <br /> illegal sale and marketing of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to minors and <br /> youth. The Pleasanton Police Department has applied for and has been awarded a CA <br /> DOJ Tobacco Grant in the amount of $431 ,459. Acceptance of this grant will fund a 0.5 <br /> FTE police officer for three years to educate Pleasanton youth on the dangers and <br /> awareness of tobacco use, and conduct undercover enforcement and compliance <br /> education for Pleasanton businesses. Program implementation will be initiated in <br /> January 2024 based on current police officer staffing. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt a resolution (Attachment 1) accepting the California State Department of Justice <br /> Tobacco Grant in the amount of $431,459. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> $431 ,459 has been awarded through the CA DOJ Tobacco Grant to fund a 0.5 FTE <br /> police officer for three years. The grant includes $23,520 to conduct retailer compliance <br /> checks. To best serve the community, permission to defer the start of the grant until <br /> January 1, 2024, has been provided. Staff will request the additional funding to fully <br /> fund this as a 1.0 FTE police officer over the life of the grant through the FY 2023- <br /> FY2025 budget process. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
