5
THE CITY OF
-Eh./
/r- . CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
January 19, 2021
Community Development
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 11 , CHAPTER 11 .20,
SECTION 11 .20.010 OF THE PLEASANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
CHANGING THE SPEED LIMIT ON PORTIONS OF STONERIDGE DRIVE
FROM 45 MPH TO 40 MPH
SUMMARY
The City reviews and updates speed limits on a yearly basis to ensure that the posted
limit provides the most orderly movement of traffic in a safe and efficient manner, and
that all posted limits conform to the requirements outlined in the California Vehicle
Code, including those requirements related to the setting of legal speed limits. The most
recent Engineering and Traffic Survey supports a reduction in the speed limit for
portions of Stoneridge Drive, from 45 MPH to 40 MPH.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the ordinance changing the posted speed limit on Stoneridge Drive between
Stoneridge Mall Road and Johnson Drive from 45 MPH to 40 MPH and between
Johnson Drive and Hopyard Road from 45 MPH to 40 MPH.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is a one-time cost to replace the existing speed limit signs with new signs
displaying the updated speed limit. This cost is estimated at $2,000 and will be funded
through the Annual Traffic Buttons and Line Markers Capital Improvement Project, CIP
No. 20507.
