9
THE CITY OF
ri
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTON.
May 1, 2018
Operations Services
TITLE: AUTHORIZE A CHANGE ORDER FOR $59,709 WITH PUMP REPAIR
SERVICE TO SUBCONTRACT REQUIRED WELL #5 REHABILITATION
TREATMENTS TO EATON PUMPS SALES & SERVICE
SUMMARY
Well #5 is one of three potable water production wells owned and operated by the City of
Pleasanton (City). The well failed on November 3, 2017 and must be replaced. At its
December 5, 2017 meeting, City Council approved an initial contract with Pump Repair
Service to replace the well for $167,068.36 during normal weekday hours. However, due
to the unique traffic and pedestrian challenges inherent to the work zone, Council
approved a change order for additional overtime estimated at $29,880 on February 20,
2018, to shift as much of the work to the weekend.
Upon video inspection of the well casing after the removal of the pump, Utilities staff
identified heavy buildup of encrustation and mineral deposits that plugs roughly 65-75%
of the screened sections of the well, which need to be rehabilitated prior to the
installation of the new pump to prevent potential future damage. Pump Repair is
subcontracting the rehabilitation work to Eaton Pumps.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize a contract change order with Pump Repair Service Co. to subcontract Well #5
rehabilitation treatment work to Eaton Pumps for the removal of buildup encrustation and
mineral deposits in the amount of$59,709 for a total contract amount not-to-exceed
$256,657.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
CIP 17140 Annual Pump and Motor Repairs is funded in FY17/18 for$110,000 and CIP
18108 Water Pump and Motor Upsizing is funded in FY17/18 with $280,000. The
combined unencumbered balances from both CIP's is sufficient to cover the total
revised well replacement and rehabilitation cost estimate of$256,657.
