THE CITY OF 12 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pLEASANTONC October 4, 2016 Community Services TITLE: DESIGNATE BERNAL BARK PARK AS THE PERMANENT NAME FOR THE OFF-LEASH DOG PARK (T) ON THE BERNAL PROPERTY SUMMARY On April 19, 2016, the City Council approved the construction of an off-leash dog park located on the northwest corner of the Bemal Property, along the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail. Although the project is referred to as the Bernal Property Off-Leash Dog Park (T), the permanent name for the park has not been addressed. The policy for determining permanent names for parks, as established by City Council Resolution No. 04-019 (Attachment 1), calls for the Parks and Recreation Commission to hold a public meeting and submit its recommendation, along with all names considered, for final approval by the City Council. At its meeting on September 8, 2016, the Parks and Recreation Commission held a public meeting to consider several potential names for the off-leash dog park that is currently under construction, on the Bernal Property RECOMMENDATION That the City Council approve the following recommendations; • Designate "Bernal Bark Park" as the permanent name for the off-leash dog park on the Bernal Property; and Y Dedicate the Dog Park in honor of Cubby (City of Pleasanton's first K-9 officer) and other City K-9 officers with either a plaque or public art piece FINANCIAL STATEMENT There is no additional fiscal impact to the City, as the cost for the park's signage is included as part of the park construction project budget.
