THE CITY OF 7 <br /> eCITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTON. <br /> September 6, 2016 <br /> Community Services Department <br /> TITLE: APPROVE FOUR (4) PROPOSED DESIGNS FOR "PROJECT PAINT BOX" <br /> SUMMARY <br /> "Project Paint Box" is a utility box beautification program that celebrates local artwork <br /> and encourages regional artists to share their creativity throughout the City of <br /> Pleasanton. Vibrant artwork helps deter unsightly graffiti and creates pleasant spaces <br /> for residents and visitors. At its May 5, 2014 Civic Arts Commission Workshop, the <br /> Commission discussed this project and in July 2014 the first Call for Artists was placed <br /> locally, regionally and nationally in artists forums, job arenas and in the local press. <br /> Additionally, several local artists were personally notified. <br /> Round three of"Project Paint Box" was initiated in May 2016. A total of eight (8) designs <br /> were received. All eight (8) designs were reviewed by the Public Art Selection Sub- <br /> Committee (PASS) on July 12, 2016. <br /> At its August 15, 2016 meeting, the Civic Arts Commission approved four (4) proposed <br /> designs and requested that their recommendation be forwarded to the City Council for <br /> their review and consideration (Attachment 2). <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the four (4) proposed designs, to be placed on the utility <br /> box located at various locations along Bernal Avenue. (Attachment 1). <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve the four (4) proposed designs, to be placed on the utility <br /> box located at various locations along Bernal Avenue. (Attachment 1). <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> All artists chosen for this project will be compensated $750 per utility box. Artist <br /> compensation will be funded through the Public Art Acquisition Fund #50550110 — <br /> 440109. <br />
