THE CITY OF _ 7
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
May 17, 2016
Community Development
Traffic Engineering Division
TITLE: APPROVE A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH CAL
ENGINEERING & GEOLOGY (CE&G) IN THE AMOUNT OF $49,994 TO
PROVIDE PLANNING AND ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR A BICYCLE
AND PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER THE ARROYO MOCHO CANAL
SUMMARY
The Pleasanton Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan and the Pleasanton Community
Trails Master Plan both include recommendations for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge at
the intersection of the Arroyo Mocho canal and the Iron Horse Trail. Currently the Iron
Horse Trail segment through north Pleasanton is under construction. The existing trail
includes an east/west street crossing of Santa Rita Road at Stoneridge Drive as well as
a north/south crossing of Stoneridge Drive at the same intersection (trail users need to
cross two legs of the intersection). Construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over
the Arroyo Mocho at the Iron Horse Trail would eliminate the need for the Santa Rita Road
crossing (one leg of the intersection).
Staff advertised and solicited a request for proposals for the Arroyo Mocho bicycle and
pedestrian bridge feasibility study; three proposals were submitted. After review, staff is
recommending Council approval of an agreement with CE&G to complete the project, as
well as other administrative actions.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Approve the Professional Services Agreement with CE&G to provide planning and
engineering services for design of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Arroyo
Mocho Canal for the not to exceed amount of$49,994
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the attached professional services
agreement.
3. Allocate grant funding of $25,000 from the Alameda County Transportation
Commission to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Related Improvements project, CIP No.
155043 to complete the funding of this study.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Funding for the Arroyo Mocho bridge feasibility study will be provided through Bicycle and
Pedestrian Related Improvements project, CIP No. 155043. This will include Alameda
County Measure B and BB funds as well as a $25,000 grant from the Alameda County
Transportation Commission.
