THE CITY OF 2 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL'EASANTONo <br /> May 17, 2016 <br /> City Manager's Office <br /> TITLE: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF APPLICATION TO <br /> CALRECYCLE FOR BEVERAGE CONTAINTER RECYCLING <br /> CITY/COUNTY PAYMENT PROGRAM AND RELATED <br /> AUTHORIZATION <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The CalRecycle's beverage container recycling program goal is to reach and maintain <br /> an 80 percent recycling rate for all California Refund Value (CRV) beverage containers - <br /> aluminum, glass, plastic and bi-metal. Projects implemented by cities and counties <br /> assist in reaching and maintaining this goal. <br /> Pursuant to Public Resources Code (PRC) section 14581(a)(3)(A) of the California <br /> Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act, the Department of Resources <br /> Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is distributing $10,500,000 in fiscal year (FY) <br /> 2015-16 to eligible cities and counties specifically for beverage container recycling and <br /> litter cleanup activities. <br /> Each city is eligible to receive annually $5,000 or an amount calculated by CalRecycle, <br /> on a per capita basis, whichever is greater. The City of Pleasanton's estimated portion <br /> is $18,000 annually. The funding begins from the date of award through June 29, 2018. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or designated <br /> staff to submit an application for the CalRecycle City/County Payment Program for FY <br /> 15/16 through FY 17/18. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> If application is successful the total allocation is estimated to be $54,000 over three <br /> Fiscal Years, FY 15/16 through FY 17/18, and $18,000 annually. <br />
