March 17, 2015 Operations Services TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO EXTEND THE TERM OF THE COMMITTEE ON ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT UNTIL APRIL 30, 2016 SUMMARY In July, 2008 the City Council established the Committee on Energy and the Environment (Committee) to advise it on energy and environmental issues, strategies, program development, and opportunities for energy and water conservation. The duties of the Committee include supporting the City's General Plan, Climate Action Plan, and Council priorities as they relate to energy and the environment. This includes developing measurable strategies, assisting with outreach events, and providing input on proposed programs and ordinances related to prudent use of natural resources. Based on the level of support and involvement the City has received from the Committee, staff finds value in extending the ad hoc Committee's term for an additional year. Prior to this date, the City Council may reassess the Committee's agenda and agree to limit or extend the Committee's term as appropriate. THE COMMITTEE ON ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT RECOMMENDATION Unanimously recommended that the City Council approve the proposed resolution. RECOMMENDATION Adopt the attached resolution amending Resolution No. 08-234 to extend the term of the Committee on Energy and the Environment until April 30, 2016. This also includes extending the current Committee members for an additional twelve month term. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The financial impact is indirect relating to staff time required to staff and support the Committee.
