BACKGROUND
City Resolution 08-234, which originally established the Committee, provides that the
City Council may extend the term of the Committee beyond its initial 7 years (including
any extensions) based on an assessment of needs and responsibilities.
Due to the myriad tasks involved in implementing the Climate Action Plan and other
pressing energy and environmental programs, and the desire to help educate and solicit
input from the community, it is recommended that the Committee be extended through
April 30, 2016.
DISCUSSION
At its meeting of January 28, 2015 the Committee clarified and identified its objectives
moving forward:
1. Monitor and recommend implementation of advanced recycled water projects
including Indirect Potable Reuse (IDPR) as appropriate.
2. Monitor and make recommendations on the County Community Choice
Aggregation Project and other power source procurements appropriate for the
City.
3. Evaluate additional Property Assessed Clean Energy financing programs suitable
for residents and commercial energy conservation.
4. Conduct outreach activities to communicate the benefits of natural resource
conservation and environmental stewardship;
5. Provide insights on related current events, literature, and technology
developments; and
To date, the Committee has focused on development of the Climate Action Plan,
ordinances regarding single use plastic bags and foam containers, rezoning to allow for
vertical access wind turbines, commercial and residential energy programs, energy and
water conservation efforts, public outreach and education, natural resource
management and fleet replacement programs. The Committee remains open and
committed to assisting the City in meeting State legislative requirements, while
supporting the City's General Plan, Climate Action Plan, and Council priorities.
Sub• i :41y /
Approved by:
Daniel Smi Nelson Fialho
Director of •perations Services City Manager
Attachment:
1.
