THE CITY OF 13 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT PLEASANTON. January 20, 2015 Assistant City Manager TITLE: CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE THE CONCEPTUAL PARK PLAN FOR AN OFF-LEASH DOG PARK ON THE BERNAL PROPERTY ADJACENT TO THE MARILYN MURPHY KANE TRAIL STAGING AREA AND A PROJECT FUNDING PLAN SUMMARY At the City Council meeting of June 17, 2014, your Council approved an agreement with the Tanaka Design Group to design and prepare construction specifications for a proposed approximately 1.5 acre off-lease dog park (dog park) located on the Bernal Property adjacent to the Marilyn Kane Trail staging area. Since that time, staff has been working with Tanaka Design Group and the Parks and Recreation Commission (Commission) which has resulted in an approved conceptual plan that is being presented for City Council consideration. If approved by the City Council, the Tanaka Design Group will be directed to complete its work including finalizing design/construction specifications and preparing a cost estimate for the dog park with the intent that funding would be considered by City Council as part of the upcoming 2015/16 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). A copy of the proposed Conceptual Park Plan is included as Attachment 1 and a copy of the Commission's October 9, 2014 and December 11, 2014 agenda reports are included at Attachment 2. The December 11 report provides a summary of comments received from residents concerned with park impacts to the neighborhood. Also included is an excerpt of the minutes from those meetings (Attachment 3). PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION Approve the Conceptual Park Plan for the dog park. RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve the Conceptual Park Plan (Attachment 1) for an off-leash dog park located on the Bernal Property adjacent to the Marilyn Kane Trail staging area. 2. Authorize the Tanaka Design Group to complete the design and construction and bid specifications/ documents for the dog park. 3. Authorize staff to identify funding options to be included in the 2015/16 Capital Improvement Program. FINANCIAL STATEMENT There is no financial impact as a result of this action since the City Council has already approved funding for the Tanaka Design contract. However, there will be a financial impact should the City Council decide to fund the project as part of the upcoming CIP. Final estimated cost detail will be prepared as part of the final project specifications.
