THE CITY OF 13 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> PLEASANTON. <br /> January 20, 2015 <br /> Assistant City Manager <br /> TITLE: CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE THE CONCEPTUAL PARK PLAN <br /> FOR AN OFF-LEASH DOG PARK ON THE BERNAL PROPERTY <br /> ADJACENT TO THE MARILYN MURPHY KANE TRAIL STAGING <br /> AREA AND A PROJECT FUNDING PLAN <br /> SUMMARY <br /> At the City Council meeting of June 17, 2014, your Council approved an agreement with <br /> the Tanaka Design Group to design and prepare construction specifications for a <br /> proposed approximately 1.5 acre off-lease dog park (dog park) located on the Bernal <br /> Property adjacent to the Marilyn Kane Trail staging area. Since that time, staff has been <br /> working with Tanaka Design Group and the Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> (Commission) which has resulted in an approved conceptual plan that is being <br /> presented for City Council consideration. If approved by the City Council, the Tanaka <br /> Design Group will be directed to complete its work including finalizing <br /> design/construction specifications and preparing a cost estimate for the dog park with <br /> the intent that funding would be considered by City Council as part of the upcoming <br /> 2015/16 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). <br /> A copy of the proposed Conceptual Park Plan is included as Attachment 1 and a copy <br /> of the Commission's October 9, 2014 and December 11, 2014 agenda reports are <br /> included at Attachment 2. The December 11 report provides a summary of comments <br /> received from residents concerned with park impacts to the neighborhood. Also <br /> included is an excerpt of the minutes from those meetings (Attachment 3). <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the Conceptual Park Plan for the dog park. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the Conceptual Park Plan (Attachment 1) for an off-leash dog park <br /> located on the Bernal Property adjacent to the Marilyn Kane Trail staging area. <br /> 2. Authorize the Tanaka Design Group to complete the design and construction and <br /> bid specifications/ documents for the dog park. <br /> 3. Authorize staff to identify funding options to be included in the 2015/16 Capital <br /> Improvement Program. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no financial impact as a result of this action since the City Council has already <br /> approved funding for the Tanaka Design contract. However, there will be a financial <br /> impact should the City Council decide to fund the project as part of the upcoming CIP. <br /> Final estimated cost detail will be prepared as part of the final project specifications. <br />
