BRUCE FIEDLER SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL <br /> 6589 Hemlock Street Provided to the City Council <br /> Dublin, CA 94568 After Distribution of Packet <br /> 925.828.7626 <br /> October 22, 2013 Date <br /> Idea kze) <br /> Pleasanton City Council <br /> Pleasanton Housing Commission <br /> Mayor Thorne, Commissioner Casey, Council Members and Commissioners: <br /> After more than a decade of discussion,three sets of consultants, and more than fifteen <br /> different site plans, a blueprint for the rebirth of Kottinger Place and Pleasanton Gardens <br /> as Kottinger Gardens is finally coming to you for approval. <br /> Like all plans,this is a compromise to make best use of land,space and money while <br /> trying to meet the needs of present and future residents and the community as a whole. <br /> And I think it mostly meets the goals set out by the Taskforce long ago, including: <br /> * Retains existing rent levels with existing tenants <br /> * Increases the number of units consistent with City design standards <br /> * Owned and operated by a not-for-profit housing corporation <br /> * Designed for aging-in-place, but retains "independent living"status <br /> * Energy efficient <br /> * Has a design that retains a "garden" feel similar to existing developments <br /> * Affordable for perpetuity <br /> * City retains ownership of land <br /> * Assumes demolition of buildings at Kottinger Place and Pleasanton Gardens <br /> * Minimizes impact of relocation on existing residents <br /> * Consolidates management of sites on both sides of Kottinger Drive <br /> You may expect some future adjustments to the layout of buildings and apartment plans, <br /> just as we saw with the development of both Ridge View Commons and Parkview. This <br /> is normal in an undertaking of this complexity. But you should give this project your <br /> unanimous approval so it can start to move through the PUD process. <br /> Though I no longer serve as a Taskforce alternate for the Directors of Pleasanton <br /> Gardens, I have continued to provide input based on twenty-six years of on the ground <br /> experience serving low-income elders in this community.
