THE CITY OF / 1 2
I me b=
-A_=( CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL E ASANTON.
May 3, 2011
Fire
TITLE: APPROVE A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPLICATION FOR
ASSEMBLY BILL 2286 GRANT FUNDING
SUMMARY
Assembly Bill AB 2286 (statutes 2008) went into effect January 1, 2009. It requires all
local government Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs) and businesses
regulated under the Unified Program to report Unified Program data electronically to the
state by January 1, 2013. The law provides grant funding to CUPAs to help pay for
establishing and implementing a system for complying with these electronic reporting
mandates. There is $52,712.00 available to the Livermore - Pleasanton Fire Department
(LPFD) through this grant program.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt attached resolution authorizing an application for Assembly bill 2286 and applying
for the grant. Authorize the Fire Chief and /or his designee to execute in the name of the
Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department all documents, including but not limited to,
applications, agreements annual reports including expenditure reports and
amendments necessary to secure said payments to support our Unified Program
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This grant would reimburse the LPFD $52,712.00 for the expense of complying with the
AB 2286 electronic reporting requirements. The attached grant application and
transition plan outlines the plan in detail. Compliance will be paid for by grant and
already collected enforcement penalty monies with no impact to the general fund and
eliminating the need to raise fees for businesses. These penalty monies must be spent
in support of the Livermore- Pleasanton Fire Department's CUPA and hazardous
materials program.
